I wanted to let all of our viewers know that we’re making a change in the player we use to deliver the shows on the site. We’re currently delivering files in a QuickTime format which has a few disadvantages, most notably you need to have QuickTime player installed to view. Although QuickTime is pretty prevalent on the web not everyone has it. To address this we’ll be going to a Flash player which has the highest penetration among web browsers.
The new player also adds some functionality that I know you’ll enjoy. For starters it will allow for a high resolution file as well as a lower resolution file for slower connections, and for those that have an older version of Flash player. If you find that you can not watch the high resolution files, or any files for that matter, please upgrade your version of Flash by going to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Additional functionality includes the ability to subscribe to the iTunes podcast feed, the ability to grab an embed code that will allow you to embed episodes onto your website, and the ability to email a link to a friend. All of these will be available directly through the player menu.
The plan is to roll out this new player over the next week by slowly changing over each show. Our hope is to cause as little interruption as possible. Currently we have Episode 1 in this new format. If you have time please click on the Episode 1 link or on the right side of the home page and have a look.
In short we think it will be a win win for us and you. If you do have any issues with it please let us know buy going to the “Technical Difficulties” section of the forums and posting in the topic “New Media Player”
Carry on citizens, nothing more to see here.
Mike
