This week it’s staff favorites!!
Alright Freaks, as most of you know Mike had to undergo emergency surgery last week and have his appendix removed. Along with taking Mike down his nasty appendix also took down all the days we had scheduled to shoot episodes. Unfortunately that means that this week we don’t have a new episode for you. However Toni came up with a grand idea!! So this week we’re doing staff favorites.
Below are the episodes that each of us has picked as our favorite. Along with the episode we’ve each written a small back story to explain why we liked it so much. We hope you enjoy our favorites, and the reasons for why we like them so much. Thanks so much for your patience during this time and we’ll be back with a brand new show next week!
Mike’s Pick
I picked this episode for a couple reasons. For starters because of how quickly the inspiration for it hit me. It started with a script that Lynnda wrote and in it she had a segment about tips for going to an all you can eat buffet. As I was reading it I just had this vision of people attacking the buffet. It then changed into a military scenario with Lynnda as a Drill Sergeant explaining to her platoon of bariatric patients how they too could enjoy a buffet with their families, as long as they had a plan of attack. At that point Sergeant Shepherd was born. Of course any good Drill Sergeant needs a bumbling private so I added Private Towe to the skit. A quick trip to the Army surplus store for wardrobe and we we’re off and running.
My second reason for liking this episode so much is Lynnda’s performance. It just all came together perfectly and she nailed the character. It’s not often that what you see in your head while writing get’s captured in the performance but this was one of those times. Lynnda really is amazing and quite a natural in front of the camera. I have worked with a lot of professional actors that she blows away on a regular basis. No matter what gets written she is always ready and willing to do it. I really consider BTV to be lucky to have her in the show!

Toni’s Pick
This is my all time favorite episodes. Not only did it have a lot of great information, including a freak of the week that had serious complications, but it talked about how weight loss suergery effects your family members and it highlighted the most popular reconstructive surgery for WLSer, the Panneculectomy.
Mostly I think it’s my favorite because we had so much fun shooting it. The last segment was just a real riot to do and I love being Mrs. Wendelton. She’s a great character because she doesn’t have a solid thought in her head. Sometimes it’s hard being yourself but when you get to act like someone completely different from you, it’s a little liberating. And anyone that knows me, knows that I’m nothing like Mrs. Wendelton. And anyone that knows Mike knows he nothing like Mr. Wendelton. It was fun still being a couple, but a completely different couple. That and the gag factor. I really did GAG from the smell of the fish skin getting caught in the blades of the Omega Master 9000.
And one more note…not sure anyone caught on that my head gears spells out the words “Dork”.
Lynnda’s Pick
I would have to say that this episode 32, “The Weight Loss Saboteur” is my favorite. There have been many episodes that I loved the content of or I loved filming.. This one was both for me. I think we can all relate with having some sort of saboteur in our lives and it’s okay to admit that we don’t like them and, at times, are threatened by them.. They seem to voice the commentary that a lot of us having running in our heads.. “It’s okay.. that Twinkie won’t hurt you.. it’s only one”.. Hearing it actually voiced by someone else has the potential to enable you to give in.. and I know that scares me, probably scare you too. 9 times out of 10 they really do mean well.. For a lot of people, food is how they show love. It’s just a matter of recognizing what they are doing and helping them to understand that there needs to be another way. Toni, Mike and I had a great time filming this episode. I hope you enjoy as much as we did.
Danielle’s Pick
I like this episode because anyone who knows me knows that I love a good accent. The way the Toni in Lynnda talk to each other during coffee talk makes me laugh out loud every time I see it. BTV coffee talk, I love you!
No new video this week….:-(
The crew here at BTV would like to apologize to our viewers. Unfortunately, due to an unforseen circumstance, we don’t have a video for you this week.
Our own editor and producer, Mike, had a emergency appendectomy this last Wednesday and is currently on bed rest.
Yes folks, we are having to hold that man back from sitting at his editing bay.
The good news is he is on the mend and we will, hopefully, have something up for you next week.
And for all our viewers sending their well wishes, we just can’t thank you enough. It really did a lot to keep our spirits up during the hours before and after surgery.
So from our family to yours…thank you.
Toni

While at the ASMBS meeting this year we were fortunate enough to get a chance to not only talk with the president of the organization, but some key researchers that presented findings at the meeting. The videos below are the results of those interviews
Dr. John W. Baker, President of the ASMBS
Dr. Baker discussed with us what the ASMBS does and how it’s helping to prevent obesity. He also discussed what we, as patients, can do to help.
Dale Bond – The effects of weight loss surgery on female sexual dysfunction.
Dr. Timothy Kuwada – The effects of insurance mandated preoperative medical programs.
Dr. Shanu Kothari – What happens to the patient when insurance denies weight loss surgery.
Dr. Gus Slotman – When surgery is a family affair.
ASMBS Part 4
Here’s more coverage of ASMBS. We’ll start it off with Shannon from Revival who besides being absolutely adorable, has a wonderful offer for a few of you viewers. We then do a quick interview with the folks at Hormel Health Labs about their Healthy Shot product. Yes they are from Hormel, no it doesn’t taste like chili!
