The second greatest power ~ the power to choose!

WWW
« on: September 24, 2010, 05:08:39 PM »

I was wondering how tall you guys are... reason being, my husband was given a 'goal' weight by our surgeon - I was just wondering if that was a realistic goal or not... so I'm looking at different men on the forum - what their heights are and the 'goals' that either they are at or that they are aiming for... I realize the BMI isn't always the best indicator and he has been 'heavy' ALL of his life - so there would be extra skin and bone density involved as well.

Thanks for your replies...

5-10

I also was a big guy. You can check my before pic on the forum. I was 330 the day of surgery. After surgery, when I asked my surgeon how much I would weigh if I did everything I was supposed to he said according to the BMI chart, I should weigh about 185. He said that was too low for me and that I should weigh 200-215. My weight plummeted to 205 and then leveled off. I am now at about 195 and would actually like to lose the other 10 pounds...not because I need to but because I keep thinking that after the 18 month honeymoon period, I will probably put weight back on. Is this true? Any long time post-ops want to clue me in?

I'm 5' 10-11 or so, and been maintaining at 200 give or take a few and I'm fine there.

I've been as low as 187, and while I would like to say I'm "under 200", I've put on muscle this summer that's bumped me up a bit.

I'd probably be in the 185-195 range if I got rid of the extra skin, so I'm good where I'm at. I use the scale to give me a rough idea of where I'm at, but my clothes fit good (M-L shirts, 32 in jeans), and I feel good where I am...

I would really like to find out just where my body fat percentage is at, cause I was likely 50% or more at my heaviest, and those basic measurements you get on a scale and such put me at around 16-18% now, which is a very healthy spot to be for a guy my age.

Hey Lady K.

My Surgeon and I met in June for my 1 year Post-Op Follow-Up and he says he'd like to see me around 200 lbs. I'm about 237 lbs right now and I am 6'3" and I feel fantastic at this size. Ifeel for me, 200 lbs might be a little underweight for me.

I was 439 lbs pre-op, so losing half of myself is a bit surreal still.

I hope this helps.

6' 1"  441 max weight
Dr. didn't set a goal, but I did.  I wanted to be below that obese line on the bmi charts
188 was my goal and I hover right around that.  Up or down a little depending on the week.

I'd like to be at the lower end of it, but I take it day by day.

I think something to keep in mind for a lil mental boost... you likely have a good 10+pounds of excess skin... unless you've had plastics. So really, it helps me to know that yea, I'm actually "below 200" .. sorta :>

I just bought a new scale that has Body fat and hydration as a part of it for $54 on Amazon - Also goes up to 400lbs - I had a body fat analyzer scale when I lost weight on diets - I find it very useful if you are working out (especially lifting)  as putting on muscle does cause you to "gain weight"

6'1" my low was 188 which was my own set goal, the doctor didn't set one for me.

I am currently sitting around 200 plus or minus a few depending on the day.
I'd like to get back down to 188 because exercising was easier then.

My initial weight was 441 pounds

In nutrition school, we learned a fast way to calculate what our Ideal Body Weight should be...

Men -
The first 5' = 106 pounds
6 additional pounds for each additional inch in height
Then you have a 10% +/- window on either side of that figure

With women it's -
The first 5' = 100 pounds
with 5 additional pounds for each additional inch in height
Again a 10% +/- window

This works pretty well, generally, but there are always people who look great a bit heavier... and I think that if you work out a lot and have lots of muscle, you are going to weigh more and still look good.

And there IS the extra skin thing...

Sounds like that is where my Dr came up with my goal.  I do not know cause I have never gotten close, but I really think I would look sick at 137 (that is with the extra 10%).  I'm gonna keep going like I am and just see where it winds up.
