I'm brand new to the losers bench.  Had my surgery 4 days ago. I've been experiencing shoulder pain since right after my surgery (VSG and hiatal hernia repair). I've heard this is normal - has anyone else gone through this?

I remember having it on the right side.  Hope it's better by now! Congrats on your surgery. Kiss

From what I understand shoulder pain is very common after surgery...the air they use to pump up your guts can cause it.  However, if you are concerned call you doctor since I have absolutely no medical training Smiley

Sorry...I just saw this post. Yes, I had HORRENDOUS shoulder pain after my lap RNY, and yes, it was due to the gas they pump into your belly during the procedure.

The best way to relieve it? WALK. Walk around as much as you can (not much in less than one week post op) and rest and sip. Then, walk some more. If you have a treadmill, put it on the lowest speed and walk, slowly. It will relieve the pain, better than pain relievers.

Trust me on this one..I was absolutely miserable with the shoulder pain and walking helped it A LOT!

Welcome to your new life.  Weirdness abound but it gets better.

Shoulder pain is pretty normal with anytype of surgery where they pump you full of gas.

Wasn't so bad with my RNY, but I had another surgery years and year ago..where the gas shoulder pain was so painful.

Make someone rub and pat you gently in that area...it helps.

Take your pain meds. They do really help to. NO reason to be in pain if you have meds.
