When do you decide that your surgery did not work adequately and decide to do a revision? How far out?
What would the insurance requirements be (obviously for the average insurance policy that covers WLS).

I don't think there's one timeline. It depends on what is going on.

Mainly, you have to decide if there was a mechanical issue with the surgery. Like if your band slips or your stoma gets so wide that food won't stay in the pouch long enough to feel satiated. Band slips can happen just months after surgery or years after. The stoma getting too wide generally takes a while, at least a year. If there is a mechanical problem, then revising will fix it and everything will be fine.

But, if it's an emotional issue and you are eating around the surgery, you'll just eat around the new surgery too, plus most insurances won't pay for a revision in that case.

Speaking of insurances, lately they've been instituting a "one bariatric surgery per lifetime" rule. So you need to check for that. Otherwise, if it's clearly a mechanical problem, they should pay to fix it if they pay for WLS at all. You shouldn't have to be back to being MO either though some will say that's required. (But you should be able to appeal that and win).

It worked for the first six months, then nothing. Keep losing the same 4 - 5 pounds.
Been driving me nuts, am trying to up my calories to about 1200 to see if that helps. Down a few pounds in the last few days, but we'll see.
Been following the program, work out 3 - 4 times per week, no liquid calories except for the protein powder in my coffee. No sweets, low fat, was at around 800 calories per day.
I still have great restriction so am not eating large quantities of anything. I get so much conflicting advice it is driving me nuts. The doc says don't listen to my nut (who works for him), just get in the protein. But, I can get the protein in with very low calories but you do need some fat and good carbs to fuel the body. On here, I hear everything.
I am an analyst, also mild Asperger's, so cope better with some defined, black and white rules.
I am going to have a Bod Pod analysis on Tuesday, also have my 1 year surgiversary appt with the surgeon (afraid to face his disappointment..) so I will have lab results and the Bod Pod results. Maybe then I can figure out what I need to do to beat this monster. It is so hard watching others at six months out and down over 100 pounds and so many clothes sizes when I can still wear my old clothes. Yes, they are loose, but still wearable.  Cry

Yes, thanks for asking, 5 pounds in the last week, surgeon said to lower the protein to no more than 90, and lower the carbs.
In other words, was eating too much of the wrong foods!  Angry

77 lbs loss is great by the way.

As far as eating, for me, the three bite protein to one bite of whatever, worked well with my need of routine. I'm a person who does well with a schedule and set course so this way of eating really did help me.

It's just a thought.

Me too, was skipping snacks and not enough fluids. Funny how being so exact with the schedule works best for me.
I am at the Ohio Equine Affaire and am packing in my food and fluids to stay on program.
Thanks for caring you are helping me stay focused. Maybe we need wristbands like WWBTVD!! To remind us.  Tongue

I am so glad to hear that you are on the move (down) again.  BTW- I am proud of you for facing your surgeon even though you were worried about him being disappointed.  I think a lot of people don't get the insight and help they need because they are worried about that.

Thanks, it was hard to do, but was the best thing I have done lately.
He is very supportive, called himself my ardent supporter. Was pretty non judgemental all in all.
Just brought my ticker up to date, looks much better, doesn't it?  Cool
