Taken on 3/3/12 in Kauai - at Waimea Canyon

« on: February 04, 2012, 03:03:07 PM »

Things are going quite well - I'm losing weight - already able to fit in pants I could not fit in before the surgery.  I'm doing well with my eating - getting about 110 g of protein (69-75% of my calories).  Still doing protein drinks - but I expect to do them for the rest of my life (fortunately I like them).  The crushing of pills is getting to be a routine I'm not enjoying (the taste of them that is.  Sometimes I feel very energized and others I feel like I'm dragging.  I'm basically off the pain meds (do a little bit of liquid tylonal - but over all no pain.  Walking about an hour a day.  Blood sugars have still not stabilized - but the numbers are going in the right direction.  I'm not generally hungry - but have felt it at time (which is good to know I can still get hungry) - eating/drinking water - does feel a bit like a chore - I do about six (6) "meals" a day usually egg whites, chicken, fish, tofu with some sort of sauce - I'm really enjoying curries right now.  I've also bought myself a reward in a little over three weeks - I'm going to HI - I'm not sure if I'll swim or not (the incisions look like they may be healed by then - I'll let my doc decide that) - but I figure - it will be much nicer to walk and recover there then in what is usually the rainy and cold NorthWest (though the weather has been amazing right now - and I am thankful).  Even my Edema has gone down - so I think the swelling is subsiding (and yes I am wearing compression socks and will on the airplane - as well as getting up and walking).

Well that is an update

congrats, you are going to find those pants quickly moving down a size, especially if you are walking an hour each day.  Its amazing how much that walking helps.  Keep up the great work.

So I have lost about 30lbs since before the surgery and 20lbs since surgery (I did not have access to a scale before surgery) - but just found a great one on Amazon from Eat Smart - it goes up to 400lbs (won't need that) and it measures BF, water, Muscle and bone (as percentage) - I find this to be very useful - especially since we want to loose fat and not muscle.  It was also only $56 - which is a great price for any scale and it looks nice too.  Very sleek.
