Hi Everyone,

I've watched every episode from BTV so far and think they are fantastic.  Smiley Good job Toni and the team. It's like you are in my head. Although, I find the episodes most useful to play while my husband is around - so I can educate him without him realising! lol

I'm a 37 year old female. I teach maths in a college (students 19+). For that reason, I kept my surgery secret at work - I couldn't stand questions from literally 100's of people - I've enough on saving my own sanity, nevermind coping with other people's comments.

My family all know about my surgery and have been supportive - in their own ways  Wink

I've lost 9 stones exactly (That's 126 pounds as of this morning - way hay!) and only have 12 pounds to go to be just under the BMI 25 - normal weight!

Anyway, gotta go to work now, so I'll pop back later,
Bye for now

Welcome and congrats on great work!

How do you handle the questions about your weight loss when people at work or friends ask?

Hey Greebo!

Thanks for taking the trip across the pond to join us here in the land-O-freaks! It's always fun to have an international perspective on things. Please keep coming back and sharing your journey with us. I am sure it would be interesting to see the differences, and similarities, of your journey in jolly ole England.

Goodonya,

Welcome aboard.

Thanks for the kind words. We love hearing feedback.

You are also doing awesome and thanks for converting the "stone" to "lbs" for us.

I lost 130lbs...does that mean I lost 9 stones too?

And thanks for the comment about watching the show with your husband. When we first started this show, I don't think Lynnda and I saw the impact this would have on spouses and children. We've have feedback from people stating they use our show to educate their friends and family about the surgery and that it opens a line of communication in a fun way.

Thanks again,

Sincerely,

Toni

Hi and Welcome from Sacramento, CA!  I was able to visit England way back in 1979 and really enjoyed myself, even though I still think you guys drive on the wrong side of the road - LOL!  I so want to come back and visit again now that I'm older and can appreciate it.

Hello again,
Thanks for the warm welcome, you're a friendly bunch!  Smiley

Ian, the comments about my weightloss have been.... hmmm ....varied. Before my surgery, I had been trying to diet and exercise for years. My colleagues were used to hearing about my latest efforts, my new ideas or the fact that I'd managed to walked so many miles at the gym that week.  I had the surgery in the college summer holidays (an 8 week summer break) and was back at work in the September.

No one noticed the weightloss at first - then the comments and enquiries started - I just let everyone think that my dieting and exercise were finally working - I also told people that I was food journalling and that I was restricting my calories under the supervision of my doctor and dietitian.

As I approached "normal" size, people became inquisitive to the extreme - I felt hassled and persecuted - total strangers at work were asking me personal questions. All the enquiries took up lots of my time.

I sought advice on another forum and realised I was focussing too much on trying not to get upset and staying polite (my job depends on that) and what I needed to do was focus on avoidance tactics.

Now if someone comments I say "thankyou" and then pay them a compliment - on anything! Their hair, clothes whatever, just to turn the conversation away from me. If they persist, I suddeny have to leave for "some urgent business" that I will be late for.

Melissa, I had my surgery on August 8th last year - that's 08/08/08! The chinese think the number 8 is lucky and for them that day was a VERY special day - I thought it was fate dealing me a good hand.

Toni, Yes you've lost over 9 stone! There's 14 pounds to a stone so, you lost 9 stone 4lb - how excellent is that! Wow  Smiley

Lady K, I'm gld you enjoyed your trip over here in '79 -  I think things have probably changed a little bit since then.  Grin But we still drive on the left  Tongue

Nice to meet you all again - I'm definitely a regular now,

Diane

I had to do 2 weeks of:
2 pints semi skimmed milk, 2 low fat yogurts (Muller lites), 1 oxo cube drink and that's it...... I snuck in some s/f jelly tho'.

Well good luck, this bit's nearly over for you - this is where the fat starts to "melt away" - woo hoo!

I'm  excited for you, I hope everything goes as planned.  Smiley

I never thought of that, but it's a great way to look at a forum post! This was my 7-month surgiversary picture - 94 pounds gone - and I was just so happy, and my co-worker snapped the pic while I was enjoying the sunshine that day. It's my favorite so far!

Welcome from across the pond Greebo!  I've always wanted to go to England, I still hope to go someday in the next decade Tongue  I'm what you'd call an Anglophile Tongue  I used to practice my accent, and actually used to do voice over work for a radio station around here, as an English gal-  and the occasional Osbourne parody where I played Sharon Osbourne on the air Tongue

Hi Kellie,
Thanks for the welcome.

I don't think England is all that great at the moment - I'm working on saving up for a "round the world trip"!

My hubby says he's up for it, but then gets all worried about my wls and "things" that could happen. I'm not sure what "things" he thinks might happen to me, but Im not gonna let it stop me going (with or without him, if need be  Shocked ).

I'll certainly be visiting America on my travels - but this is at least a year or 2 away yet - I've only got half the money saved up yet, and hubby has saved........NOTHING!  Angry

Hi Paula,
Thanks - I KNOW  Smiley

It's so exciting! - Surprisingly though, it's also a little bit worrying, coz I keep thinking about the next stage as  "not losing weight".

I'm so used to focussing on losing, "just one more pound". I food journal and count calories.

I suppose I'll just carry on as I am now, just up the calories a bit, I dunno  Huh

You'll be here too before you know it - fancy that......worrrying about losing too much weight! Crazy

Remember this isn't a 'diet' - it is a life style.  You will not be changing your life style.  You will still journal and count, you just won't be so concerned about losing that 'one more pound'.  There will be fluctuations, but what you will be watching for is a gain of 5-10#... then you'll want to cut back a bit.  That will be the type of focusing you will be doing next. I can't wait to get there myself  Grin
