What's the very first memory you have?
The earliest I can remember is my 4th birthday. My Mom, Dad, and brother are sitting at the kitchen table eating breakfast, and my gift is in the corner of the dining room. They got me one of those life-sized dolls that was as big as I was. I was laughing out loud because I was so happy. I had a great family and a wonderful life growing up, and I'm so grateful for that.
What's yours?

I like this question....
Weird cause I always remember this...
I'm laying in a crib...it's a dark room...light is coming through the door, I'm sucking on a baby bottle....and I bite down and rip the nipple out of the bottle, thus spilling the contents of the bottle all over myself. I start crying and I can remember my mom coming through the door to soothe me.
Don't know how old I am....i figure somewhere between 1 and 3 maybe? Who knows, but it's a very distinct memory.

I remember being in my crib.... my mom had company ... what I remember is not settling down and going to sleep... and... as soon as I heard the company leaving I settled right down.

Wow, I can't believe you guys remember the crib! I have just racked my brain to go back further than 4 years old, and I just can't do it. I'm impressed!

When I was little, we lived in a house where the church we went to was across a field behind our house. I remember walking across the field holding Mom's hand and watching the dew drops on the top of my black patten leather shoes. I would have been somewhere around 3 or 4. And the night before, I remember her sitting in the rocking chair that Dad got for her when she had me, brushing my hair and putting it in rollers. She loved messing with my hair and it grew really long. I was the only girl she had and my 1/2 brother is 15 years older than me.
I remember stuff earlier than that, but I am not sure if they are real memories or if they are combinations of pictures and stuff I have been told.
My mom died of cancer when I was 4 1/2. I don't have many memories of her, but the few that I do are very precious. I have had a lot of very special women over the years that have mothered me, and I love them all, but I can not help but wonder how different my life would have been if she had been able to be here longer. Not like she was, because she was in a lot of pain, but healthy. Sorry to be a bit of a downer, but this is one of the times of the year when I think of her and miss her a lot.
On a lighter note, the heavier I am the more I look like Dad and the thinner I am the more I look like Mom. So, I am very curious how close the looks will be when I am thin. I'll have to do a pic comparison and post them. May have to borrow some clothes from Lynnda though.

I really don't have many memories when I was younger... they are scattered. Long story there, but one I do remember is: I'm in the back yard and the house keeper gave me a tangerine and taught me how to peel it and then peel the segments and eat the little juice pods separately. I think she just wanted to keep me busy, but I sure did have fun doing that. I still do it every now and again

My earliest memories are mostly traumatic - my older sister hated me and bit me whenever I was around, or some other ornery thing.
I do remember two scenes - I told my mother the memories and she said "wow, you were only three then, you remember that?" One was that I found a bottle of blue liquid and it looked yummy and I drank some - it was kinda sweet at first but then horrible. Turned out it was dish soap, and I puked soapsuds for a few hours.
The other was when I was that same age, a close friend of my mom's across the street babysat me. She would pull the dining chairs slightly back from the table and I would run pell-mell under the table pretending to be a train. I didn't do it for awhile and one afternoon when my mom came to pick me up, I decided to show off and be a choo choo for her - I'd grown apparently, and my pell mell run resulted in me cracking my head on the dining table.
Yep, I was always stepping (well, more like running) into trouble - still do LOL
I also have memories of traveling to Colorado when I was really small with my parents - I was under 5, because they divorced when I was 5. I have little flashes of that trip in my memory - picking up "fool's gold", feeding chipmunks outside the hotel room, nearly drowning in the hotel pool (yep, stepping into trouble, that's me), fighting with my older sister, being in awe of the mountains.

Just found this old thread and thought I'd share. I never did know the reason, but I was the 5th grandaughter on my dad's side, and for some reason, I was the apple of my grandad's eye. Mine was the only picture he carried in his wallet (which pissed off my step-granmother, but we didn't like her much anyway ). Anyway, he owned a construction company and the day after my 1st dance recital (age 4) he took me out to a job site. There were probably 20 or so workers there. He took me in my dance costume from the recital and stood me up on the hood of his pick up truck and gathered all of his men around so I could show them my dance. LOL I'm sure they were bored to tears. I don't remember this part, but have heard it over and over. After we left the job site, he took me to a local pub where I danced on the bar for all of his buddies. Can you imagine nowadays taking a 4 yr old into a pub?! Of course we lived in New Orleans, maybe you still can there. haha He passed the following year. But I will never forget the love he gave me and how proud he was of me. I know I'll never fit in that costume again, hehe. But, I do look forward to shaking my groove thang again.

What a sweet, precious memory, Maddie!
And you reminded me how much I loved when we did these questions, getting to know everyone. Toni has started them up again, and I really like them!

I would have to say 4-5 years old and it's Christmas time. I remember some of the gifts and faces of family members, but that's about it. The most vivid picture is I got one of those cowboy outfits, It had a vest, and chaps and hat, 6 shooter cap gun and a rifle and a badge. It was really cool and the quality was really good, not the plastic stuff they sell now. I think the clothes were actually leather or suede and the toy pieces were made of metal.
