Hi everyone - I had LapBand surgery on June 2, and not to be all perky and annoying - but I've had no issues or problems whatsoever. I've only had one fill, and so far am not feeling much restriction. I guess you could say the fill was an issue because my surgeon misjudged how deep my port was and used a smaller needle than he needed and ended up pressing hard and sort of digging around in my abdomen to find it. Good times.

I get my second fill next Wednesday and am hoping I get a little more restriction this time. I'm doing well without it, (I've lost about 32 lbs. so far), but since restriction was the point of becoming a modified freak and all...

I live in central Iowa and am a Vocal Music teacher at a tiny little MS/HS. I also teach Talented and Gifted, though music is my preferred area. I also direct the fall play and the spring musical. I've done a lot of performing in the past - singing and theater - though I've become more of a director these days. I'd like to get on stage again soon... and hoping the surgery will help with that. I also write and am working on writing my first play this summer.

I've loved watching the episodes (I think I've seen most of them) and was so interested to hear that Toni's mom had had Bariatric Surgery - so did mine! She had the really scary Vertical Banded Gastroplasty that no one does anymore. She had hers back in the late 70's and has had big success with it. She's up from her lowest, but nowhere near her highest.

Anyway - looking forward to becoming part of the community. It'll be nice to talk with others in the same boat!

Hey welcome!  We love new folks... and we love our regulars and we love our lurkers -- although they need to come out of the shadows and speak up!  :-)  And feel free to be as perky as you want... No one will mind.

Hey Sara,

Nice work!! I like the Celtic influence in some of the tunes. As for me, here's a couple links.

I recorded this back in 2003 with a jump blues band I was singing and drumming with.

And this is the group I am currently playing with. Drumming mostly but singing a tune or two.

Hey guys....do you think it would be useful to have our city and state on our "posts"? Like near our picture and dates?

I think I'm gonna give it a shot. Could be interesting.

Mike - Thanks! I spent a very long time doing exclusively Irish and early British Isles folk music, so it's become ingrained no matter what I try to do! When I got my current teaching job they gave me a MacBook with Garage Band and I just went to town. It was a lot of fun to make the recording and a good Christmas gift for friends and family but I'm having trouble convincing myself to try to take it further than that.
I like your stuff! I have a cousin who does a similar style - probably a decade or so later. Smiley

Mo-Mik - Howdy Neighbor! My former principal works in Grinnell now. I miss him! I'm organizing a clothing swap for plus-size women on August 9th, and would love to meet you. If you'd have any interest, let me know and I'll send you the info.

Hey Sara,

Yep the Irish folk stuff is very cool! I also find it interesting that you can trace it forward into current bluegrass music. I've always been interested in how styles of music influence each other.

I have Garage Band as well but haven't messed with it much. At rehearsal last week the trumpet player had the newest version of Band in a Box on his Mac Book and I was blown away by it. They've gone away from using just straight MIDI and are now using real samples for the music it creates. It sounded a million times better then the old version.

If your not familiar with Band in a Box here's the link http://www.pgmusic.com/index.html You can basically plug in the chord changes and let it go to town!
