Ok, this is REALLY easy to cook, tasted... just.. plain... yum.
Tuna steak (fresh) isn't cheap... bout $12-14 a pound. But I picked up 3/4pound chunk that's gonna get me three very good meals. I did see some frozen today for bout half the price.
I was just craving it again so picked up another chunk today... put just enough olive oil on to moisten the surface and season... in this case I used some of the dry green goddess dressing mix I got at Penzeys Spices the other week. I did both sides, then stuck in the fridge for a couple hours while i did other stuff. Tossed it on a HOT grill, bout 6-7 minutes per side. I kept the grill open the whole time except for the last minute or so.
The last piece I cooked on my Grill Station (think George Foreman type grill), it was thinner and the 6 minutes got it well done. It's really at it's best when "rare" to "medium-rare", but even well done it was good stuffs... and the leftovers made a GREAT tuna salad for lunch.
The plated picture really doesn't do this justice... I need to get some better lighting in my kitchen for these food pics I end up taking all the time :>
You could probably also pan cook this in a very HOT skillet. Cast iron would work wonderful for this I bet. And I have a friend, she loves tuna... but never tried cooking it. She eats it raw with some lemon juice and soy sauce. I told her I'd try it like that next time.
Maybe.
