Ok, this is REALLY easy to cook, tasted... just.. plain... yum.

Tuna steak (fresh) isn't cheap... bout $12-14 a pound. But I picked up 3/4pound chunk that's gonna get me three very good meals. I did see some frozen today for bout half the price.

I was just craving it again so picked up another chunk today... put just enough olive oil on to moisten the surface and season... in this case I used some of the dry green goddess dressing mix I got at Penzeys Spices the other week. I did both sides, then stuck in the fridge for a couple hours while i did other stuff. Tossed it on a HOT grill, bout 6-7 minutes per side. I kept the grill open the whole time except for the last minute or so.

The last piece I cooked on my Grill Station (think George Foreman type grill), it was thinner and the 6 minutes got it well done. It's really at it's best when "rare" to "medium-rare", but even well done it was good stuffs... and the leftovers made a GREAT tuna salad for lunch.

The plated picture really doesn't do this justice... I need to get some better lighting in my kitchen for these food pics I end up taking all the time :>

You could probably also pan cook this in a very HOT skillet. Cast iron would work wonderful for this I bet. And I have a friend, she loves tuna... but never tried cooking it. She eats it raw with some lemon juice and soy sauce. I told her I'd try it like that next time.

Maybe.

Oh yea.. Tuna is uber-high in protein too... something like 25+g per serving.

I wish I liked grilled tuna, but I've tried. It's just not for me.

HOWEVER....

It looks like you put that mustard sauce on top like you had with something else you cooked recently. Can you tell me how to do that one? I am loving me some mahi right now, and I think that would be excellent with it.

The sauce was a couple T of yogurt with bout 1/2 tsp of the green goddess dressing mix, 1/2 tsp of lemon juice and 1/2 tsp of Splenda

I need to play more with mustard stuffs soonly though... cause yea... grilling some fish with mustard sauce on it might just rock...

Kierie, I paid about $10 for 3/4 pound (bout 13 a pound) steak you see there... and I'll get at least three meals out of it. so not too bad. That was for fresh... they had some at about half that cost in the freezer section.

Extra cost for the good stuff is worth it - especially when you have a smaller tummy and won't eat the whole thing in one sitting.  Looks delicious!  I'm thinking of making some tuna tartare in my puree stage from fresh tuna.  Wink
