Hey Freaks.
I want to know if there is a topic that you feel needs to be hit on more in our show!!
I've gotten a few emails from some of you and people that don't participate on the forum so I thought I would throw this out to you guys.
Some suggestions are:
Post weight loss dating. Post weight loss sex Post Weight loss complication Pre weight loss diets Insurance issues More on body dysmorphia
anyway...I just thought I would throw this out to you?

They all sound like really great topics that would be interesting and helpful. I like the recipes too. And I adore the humor. How about some exercise tips for different stages and abilities?

Body Dismorphia fo so! I so suffer with this also. What about when to seek counseling for issues that arise from the surgery. What I mean is learning to deal with the extra skin (if you opt not to have plastic surgery), learning to deal with attention from people that previously looked through or past you, learning how to live life in this new way, and even dealing with binge eating disorder. In essence the cognitive stuff that your WLS can't change.

Of course Pre-op Dieting for me.
Actually I really liked the thoughtfulness of "weight reduction surgery" and not wls. I like the definition from McNee... "I’m the one looking to do the defeating here." I want to defeat this and not take it back. I'm not losing anything I want back.

Some stuff on how to cope with partners/close family's reactions would be good. My husband swings between trying to copy my eating habits in order to lose weight (i.e.tiny portions on a small plate, not drinking for 1 hour after eating) to rebelling against me and making nasty comments about "eating healthily" (said in a nasty spiteful voice). Or "Will you just relax and let your hair down!!! " - code for binge on crap with me please...... My Mum got a face like she'd been sucking lemons every time she saw me and it got worse as she asked "so how much do you weigh now". She needed to lose 70 pounds. After 14 months of resenting me, she has finally decided to do something about it through diet and exeercse - and I'm supporting her all the way! My MIL repeatedly offers me food, only to snatch it away saying - oo, no, you can't eat that. Just recently she caused a row at home because I turned down her offer of a cheese and wine party - purleeze! MIL and FIL are seriously ill and need to lose weight (FIL's life depends on it), but they have NO CLUE about nutrition. Yes......coping with other people's reactions has been hard....

Agree with the other posters about how to navigate the new social interactions. From in-laws to co-workers, family and dear spouses. Even kids. My kids are telling me they liked me "poofy" better because I was snugglier....sheesh...that's a tough one. Too bad for them!
Also - I was at a work conference in a technical field last week and previously even as one of very few women in the organization I kinda blended in or disappeared. Well now...um...let's just saw I didn't blend in and got a bit more attention than I am comfortable or knowledgeable negotiating. This sounds like a tough topic to approach...but how do you navigate this broader social world? When I bring up this added attention so far the response has been..oh...that must be nice to get attention. Well, no, it isn't. In this scenario it interfered with my work and bordered if not completely crossed the line of sexual harassment. But in other ways I find it disconcerting and obnoxious.
Also....shopping. I am now of a size where I can shop in "regular" stores (NSV!). Before when I may have had a rack or two...or a store full of ugly clothes only a few of which would barely serve my fashion needs shopping was easy enough. If it fit and wasn't hideous then take it home, but now - I walk into a regular store and COMPLETELY OVERWHELMED. Where do I even start?

Being 13 days before my surgery and dealin' with this freakin' pre-op diet... that might be nice Also, excess skin issues scare the bejesus outta me. Having already lost 80 pounds on my own a few years ago, oh the skin, she's there. Anything I can do to help prevent it? I've even thought about wearing tight clothes (obviously post op and after I'm healed up) to kinda support my skin... kinda the same theory behind how having a good bra can help prevent your boobs from saggin. Anyone tried this? Anyone tried anything that actually worked? Any recipes, protein powder reviews, etc.

Kiersti - Treat the shopping as an adventure; you're on an exploratory mission; an exploration - and **ahem** I can't believe I'm suggesting this because I'm SUCH a non-fashion maven; maybe reading some internet sites on body type and fashion can give you ideas where to start. But mostly, just look-see what looks pretty to you when youre standing there looking at one rack with your size on it. Have you gotten more compliments when you wear a particular color? Make your next trip about finding a really cute shirt in that color only - that will narrow the field of vision because your eye will automatically be looking for that color.
For me, I look good in red, off-white, and green. So I tend to look more for clothing in those colors, at least up around my face.
S-Panda; I'm still early in this journey - don't have a lot of loose skin yet - but do have some bulges. Spanks work great to smooth out most lines. Melinda on this site has some great suggestions for shapewear, too.

Make your next trip about finding a really cute shirt in that color only - that will narrow the field of vision because your eye will automatically be looking for that color. Genius. I have gone in to stores with no focus. If I go for one thing at a time, with a narrower field of vision...it will be like baby steps!

Yeah - that's my story and I'm stickin to it. You know, I always HATED going shopping. Hated it - my daughter and my ex would want to go to the mall, and I'd be like "NOOOOOOOOOO!" Now I realize it's not shopping I hate - it was that I hated shopping because there were at most two stores in the mall I could get clothing at. I now find myself totally excited to fit into a 14 and under so I can shop at most of the stores

YES Please! One of the things that I'd like to see covered as a subtopic of How to Deal with Friends and Enemies is....how to you navigate the seas of jealousy....when you see your friendships impacted. Even family relationships..we used to be a bunch of fat chicks who hung out and ate and drank and had fun. All related mostly by marriage. Well - now I don't eat or drink for fun...and I am not a fat chick anymore. AND - I feel them distancing themselves and it makes me kinda sad.
And while I can say that I have other ladies fostering friendships with me....it's hard to lose out on the history with the original group. And while part of me knew this was going to happen and I tried to prepare emotionally, it still makes me sad.

I have to agree to mostly all of the above. Pot-op and sex...I'm married so not so much the dating part, but I just know I'm going to have that lovely loose belly syndrome after I lose weight. So I know that will get in the way But the shopping would be nice. My program gave us a video to watch on shopping, but it was at the wickedly expensive farther than I want to drive Co-op in town. A real life place to shop with hints would be nice. And maybe something with dealing with family. I didn't tell my mom for the longest time because I had some reservations. After I told her, I remembered why I didn't in the first place. Even just today (my surgery is monday) "But what about my cute little fat girl?" Ugh mom!!!

All of the topics brought up are interesting. My favorite is the skin one - I want to write a book on that subject alone.
Most helpful thing for me is to keep getting fitted for bras. I bought my last bunch about 4 months ago, then had to get refitted. It's all in the underpinnings. IMHO
