One very interesting thing is how, after a certain # of lbs were lost, I noticed other women's reactions to me.  Some skinny ladies had an attitude that I was as thin as they were, and the obese ladies looked at me like I didn't understand how they felt.  I didn't fit in to either category because while thin on the OUTSIDE, I was still very obese on the INSIDE.  Torn between two worlds....

YES, YES, and YES.

The interactions with women I find the most disturbing and difficult to navigate.  I am find that I am VERY guarded now when interacting with people...maybe I have always been like that as a protectionist measure.  I am unsure of these people's motivations for speaking to me.  Even when they are just trying to be friendly, like the gal who has started going to the gym with me at lunch time.  I love having a workout partner...but I find that I am having a hard time trusting her.  It's a little ridiculous that I can't let my guard down and just be myself.  I guess that is a learning process too.

Shopping is a good topic for me right now.  Particularly with regard to the old bra issue.  When to buy a new one- last month I bought two new ones at Lane Giant and I'm already needing new ones.  Also, back pain as it pertains to post WLS and when to report it to your doc.  I literally feel like my body is pulling me forward (my cup size hasn't changed and my stupid gut is just not helping matters either) and the back pain is just annoying.  Shopping to fit your new size- getting away from hiding our bodies under baggy clothes and getting to the point where we realize what our actual size is.

I agree with my namesake on the sex issue.  The WLS Kama Sutra or something like that.

The skin is starting to be an issue for me, along with the 42 longs (LOL!).

Have you all seen the first "Men In Black" movie? The one where the giant alien cockroach is wearing the "Edgar suit"?  My husband said he feels like he's wearing a "Jake suit" and I got hysterical with laugher, because it was so appropriate... I know I'm going to be trying to figure out how to finance a few lifts, nips, and tucks.   Wink

Edgar suit!  What an appropriate analogy - I do feel like I'm wearing an Edgar suit - well, a Kristen suit - my nipples are pointing at the floor like long flattened torpedoes, my legs and butt are still jiggly (worse than when my fat was filling them out more).  I need to have darts put in my suit! I'm always late to the party......

But I'd love to see shows on:

1. sex
2.  transfer of addiction
3.  extra skin for those who don't have plastic surgery

I totally agree with this!  Grin  I had a blast watching the first two - it's nifty to see how cool and confident Toni and Lynda have gotten with more episodes under their belt.

Funny that you should mention this. We were just talking during filming last weekend how much more natural Toni and Lynnda are on camera now. Neither one of them had ever done anything like this before this show. I think it's amazing how far they have come!

It's been a learning experience for me as well as an editor. If you look at the early shows they are cut so much slower than the new ones.

I guess the take away here is... if you want to do something just go do it! No matter how it turns out at first, it'll get better and better!

Mikeh 408-358-208

As stated in another post… I discovered BTV on Ituenes, downloaded all of the pod cast to my Iphone, I just plug the phone into my car stereo and watch while out and about (mostly while sitting & waiting)

I showed the recipe for the double layer pumpkin cheesecake, Oh man that is good!  Felt like I was doing a BIG cheat!  I love cheesecake and this was the best I have ever had!  (maybe because it was the first sweet I have eaten in 6 MO!)

We have a bunch of Christmas parties we will be attending in the next month… She is taking it to all of them!  (Not even planning on telling that its not sugar filled!

We need more recopies like this!

I am in the surgery prep mode!
I would also like to see more surgery preparation stuff.  Liver reduction diet, journaling, exercise Etc.

Thanks Mike

How about going out to restaurants again post op, such as how far out you should wait to go, what you should order, etc? I don't know why but I am very  much afraid of going out to eat. I am nervous that I could order something with hidden sugar or fat that would cause me to dump. I have this need to control everything that I eat now; maybe because I already know what it's like to throw up and I do have a dread of dumping.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that cooks for one. Are there any dishes to cook  (or that you don't have to cook), that don't have left overs for weeks. (Frozen leftovers turn into frozen compost).

Yeah, I wondered about shapeware and which ones are adjustable. I really would like to buy some now but don't know what to get. Looked on QVC and HSN and all of their stuff but I want to be comfortable and I want it to work.

Body Dismorphia fo so!  I so suffer with this also.  What about when to seek counseling for issues that arise from the surgery. What I mean is learning to deal with the extra skin (if you opt not to have plastic surgery), learning to deal with attention from people that previously looked through or past you, learning how to live life in this new way, and even dealing with binge eating disorder.  In essence the cognitive stuff that your WLS can't change.

ditto this

Hi Toni
I'd like to know if there are any studies on bone density problems post wls. Also what have others experienced.  RNY 19 mo post op
and I'm 52 years old.
I went to get the scan yesterday and I was told:
1) It would take 3 weeks for my Dr. to get the results.  WHaaht?   Shocked
2) Its been four years since my last scan
3) Most upsetting: Per the tech (Not official) I have significant bone loss...Now why did she tell me this?? SO I could worry for 3 weeks?  AHHHHH !!
Look forward to your next show!

I'm about 5 months out, right now I'm struggling with the issue of branching out with food. I knew that it would be work, but, I make a healthy meal and then it comes back up, especially white meats. Are there foods that are healthier yet, pouch friendly.

Also, I thought if I ate sugary foods, I would dump. Well, I had some cheesecake over Christmas and nothing. Scary!!

Hi Abbie -

For the first year, pretty much, you will be playing refridgerator roulette.  Foods that don't work now might work in a week only to not work again a month after that.  I had a hard time with chicken for the first year so I mostly ate beef.. rare steak.. meatloaf, etc..  Everyone is different..  You just have to keep giving it a shot.  And everyone is different.  I ate a lot of eggs, cottage cheese, chili, etc in that first year..  Quiches worked well too.  Dense proteins were hit and miss.  I also seemed to do well with fish..

As far as dumping - some people do..and some people don't.  It's best to not even test those limits.   Could be that you got lucky and either didn't eat too much or you were still soon enough out from surgery that your pouch was still waking up..  If you were to have some now - you could end up dumping.. but maybe not.  If you test those limits and find that you don't dump at all - then you might start eating sugary 'stuff' again and that won't help you get to goal..  The surgery is a tool to help you lose the weight but it still requires your help to do it..

So.. please just cut the sugar out of your diet..  The first year is crucial for changing your lifestyle so that once the 'easy' weight loss stops you are equipped to keep it going or maintain where you are.

Great questions..  Keep us updated.

I am very interested to know how people eat.
I know that sounds silly, but I see some of you guys near my surgery date losing much faster than me. I don't want to sound greedy, but I do want to know if there are things that I should or could be doing differently.
Thanks

Hey Lynnda,
Not to worry- sugar is out. It was my birthday, so I had a sliver of cheesecake, but I was secretly hoping to dump. I suspect that if I had a whole slice I might have. Honestly, I don't really miss it either.

I'm glad to hear that I might be able to eat chicken and turkey next fall. Thank you- I was really worried about that. I really love it! Your year one diet sounds exactly like mine so far. I guess I have to stop putting so much pressure on.
Thanks again,
Abbie

Abbie - I am still having trouble with chicken too...I try it out - makes me sick and I put it on the back shelf again...  I have gotten really creative with ground turkey....the family hasn't even complained that we eat it for nearly every meal!

I have discovered a food that makes me absolutely sick, which I used to love - and I'm not happy about it.  Lamb.  I dunno if it's too rich for my small stomach (I had a VSG, so don't dump like RNYers) or what, but I've tried it twice, and both times got physically sick.  THought first was a fluke, so tried again - no fluke - it made me sick.  Pffft.  Ah well - all the better for the sheep LOL
