I RESIGNED  Shocked

I've felt unwell for ages.....can't remember when it started.
Every week I just stagger towards the end then spend all weekend recovering, trying to build my strength up so that I can start gain on Monday.

I have a list of hopes and dreams, and they're all getting pushed aside - coz work comes first...

I have had flu for a week, my boss rang me everyday asking me if I would be back in (I teach at college), asking me if I knew who could cover my classes - even though I told her the doctor said I should be off a week. And cover is her problem to sort out, not mine...

This week, I tried to "pull myself together" and went back to work. I lasted 'til lunch time and couldn't cope any longer. I went home.

Went to the doctor's today and she said that I still had flu plus a nasty chest infection and gave me a sick note for a week and told me I wasn't allowed to do ANY running  Sad

I realised I was happy that I was ill enough to get a note  Shocked WTF  Huh
I feel terrible, but I'd rather feel like that than go into work.

I have to work 2 months notice - I'm dreading going back.......

But hey ho, I can plan all those things that I wanted to do,
Watch out USA - you're in for a visit!  Grin

OK, you can ignore my note over on our WDYE thread - I get it now! You poor thing! I worked at a job like that ONCE. You only need once to know that you never want to do it again. You are in my thoughts and prayers, both for your health and for a brand-spanking new job that will knock your socks off!

OK since we seem to be planning the US tour for you, you can swing down to Nashville TN and meet me, DH, Tammy and Melinda.

I am so happy for you.  I so want to do what you just did.  After Christmas I am going to get back to concentrating on getting the debts paid down so I do not need the same level of income.  May take me a year or so, but after 22 1/2 years I am just sick of it.  I plan to look for a lower paying, less stressful job where I can go to work and come home.  Leave the crap there and not have the job rule my life like it does now.

Congrats!!!

Thanks for your messages everyone - I really do have plans to visit, so I will definitely keep your suggestions in mind.

Ian, it possibly could be Feb, but my DH works at the same place and he will need to get time off too. That would mean that we could only come for 2 weeks tops (can only book time off in the college holidays...another restriction I won't miss!).......now if I waited until the summer it could be a month! Choices, choices - FANTASTIC! Cheesy

Paula, it'd great to meet you an' the gang - I'll keep you all informed when my plans become clear  Smiley

Congrats Diane! and color me green as well.  I am constantly reminded of why I should be happy to keep my little under paid - under appreciated job with no chance of promotion... and I am to a certain extent since my DH is unemployed, but it is SO depressing to see others pass me up for who they know rather than how hard they've worked and it happens every day, while they tell us about more cuts and more cuts and more cuts and they hire more fluff all the while.  So - i can totally relate to be happy to be out.  Maybe it will happen for me, some day.

If you swing through the midwest US - I'm in Indianapolis...  Grin

Oooo, Kristen that sounds so inviting!  Cool

Current plan being discussed inclues lots of "working for food and lodgings" situations - hence my question about wwoofers the other day:

July, Aug, Sept: DH quits his job at the begining of summer, we spend 90 days in the USA over the summer because we can stay that long without a complicated visa......

Oct, Nov, Dec:  I made a contact in Vietnam.....they asked me to teach English for them (when I was there last OCT) and I would pay "very little" to live with a host family. I had to say "no" at the time because of work......

Jan......then on to Australia, maybe

This is my "once in a lifetime trip" - I better make the most of it  Grin

WOW!  I wake up each and every day feeling the exact way you describe.  Wishing my way through the week just to recover on the week end!  I have a very demanding job and hate just about every minute of it....

I'm impressed and envious!  Good for you!  I wish I had your courage, or the $$ to pay off my mortgage.   Lips sealed

So now that it has been more then 2 months....how has it been going for you?  Good decision?

Thanks for asking....I meant to update this thread!

Things are progressing....it's hard to untangle yourself from everything...
I worked my 2 months notice and have left my job  phew!
We've been selling all our stuff on ebay, adverts and 'car boot' sales - hard work!
Most of my clothes, trinkets, jewelry etc. are sold. Sold our bicycles, treadmill......
The house is on the market and now I have to keep it viewer ready all the time and I'm waiting for the first 'call'. (lol, cleaning house is good exercise!).

If you feel curious, you can see my house at: http://www.simonblyth.co.uk/property.asp?ID=8895
It's pretty empty, because we really have sold most of our stuff, including any unecessary furniture!

Sold my car yesterday!

Still got a garage full of stuff to sell and DH is still working.

I'm a bit worried about how long it will take to sell the house as the market is still very down at the moment, but we have a plan B: we will come to the USA for a month (July) and come back to continue to sell the house.

It's so liberating...opting out of society's "buy, buy, buy, own lots of stuff" culture, I have everything I need  Smiley

So, my life has changed, totally, and for the better!

Your house looks very nice!  And with 4 bedrooms I would think it would go quite fast.  I like the "No Chain" reference after hearing about the horrendous chains of people waiting.

Congratulations on your clearing out of all your stuff.  It's liberating isn't it?

Enjoy your holiday! only one month to go!

Thanks Kristi!

On the house selling front: we've just suffered a real set-back - the house directly oppsite ours has just gone up for sale for £12,000 less than ours!

I'm thinking they must be having financial problems because that price must be less than they paid for it (there have been 2 reposessions on our street already).....

Ah well, we will still sell...just later than planned.

Most of my friends are envious, but think I'm crazy to leave my job and sell up in the middle of a recession. My RNY has taught me that I can do ANYTHING I want (yeah, lose weight, that thing I thought I could never do!).
So, c'mone plan B!

Di - I just checked out your home, and it's lovely! I would certainly be interested in it if I lived in the area, so don't lose faith. I know you guys will sell it eventually. And kudos to you and hubby for jumping in the pool with both feet. It takes courage, but as has already been stated, it's certainly liberating as well!
