During last night's cookbook signing, Melinda told me she had been by Trader Joe's and found some bread that appeared to be WLS friendly. I LOVE, LOVE Julian Bakery bread, but I have to order it online, and with the shipping, it's really expensive. I've been wanting to find a local alternative.

So after the signing, I headed over and bought 2 loaves and wanted to report back to you. If you have a Trader Joe's near you, FIND THIS BREAD!

Trader Joe's Sprouted 7-Grain Bread - about $2.99 loaf - 1 slice
Calories - 60
Fat - 1g
Carbs - 7g
Fiber - 3g (only 4g net!)
Sugar - 0g!!!!
Protein - 5g

Trader Joe's Sprouted Wheat Berry Bread - about $2.99 loaf - 1 slice
Calories - 90
Fat - 1g
Carbs - 18g
Fiber - 2g
Sugar - 2g
Protein - 4g

The 7-grain stuff has much better stats. I only picked up the Wheat Berry because it mentioned that it had dates and raisins in it, but you can't tell that. Both of these slices tasted about the same, so for the better stats, I'd go with the 7-grain. It's YUM! Very much a wheat bread, though, so it has texture. It's not as dense as Julian, and it only has about 1/2 the protein. HOWEVER, it also has 1/2 the calories, so eating 2 slices is no problem if you tolerate bread well. I enjoyed mine this morning with a bit of Whey Low Gold and Cinnamon - yum!

Awesome!  I am headed there later today so I added it to my list.  Me and DH are headed in for our 6-mth checkup today.  I have not met the 55% goal so not sure if the Dr is gonna be fussin at me or not.  I am thrilled with my progress, esp since I have not had the time or gumption to exercise regular in a while.

Tammy, wish we could hook up, but DH has to rush back to KY cause he has 2 Vent preformances later today.

YAY, Paula! So proud of you! Happy Friday, and enjoy your bread! I saw on WDYE that you ate your first sandwich with an Arnold's Sandwich Thin. I keep those puppies in my freezer, too! They're great!

Way to go Paula.

I love Trader Joes. I go every other week because it's an hour away but I love it.
I'll stock up on this bread if my family will eat it. I've been making them eat what I do
but in different quantities. I'll get them onboard eventually.

Couldn't find the 7-Grain bread at my Trader's, I'll give it another shot though.

I did order the Julian's Bakery bread you mentioned, I hadn't had it before and thought that might be a fun thing to try!

Thank you!

Kiersti - you'll love it! If I could get it all the time (and afford it), it's what I would keep in my freezer. (And you'll want to keep it in your freezer or it goes bad quickly!) This is just a local option for folks who can't get Julian's all the time. It's really good!

It's official- I love it!  Had it yesterday with some Smart Balance PB and SF Blackberry Jam.  Next time I'll try it toasted.  We had put the toaster away and I couldn't find it.  My sweetie found it for me, so next time - Toast!

I tried this bread a while back and completely agree with its awesomeness!  I <3 Trader Joes!  The closest one is about an hour away from where I live.  However, now that I'm commuting to Minneapolis for work, I drive by it twice a day!  It's almost a bad thing I drive by all the time, because I want to stop there every day!

However, the prices are amazing and the food is deliciously good (and good for you! for the most part!).
