Hi! My name is Tamara and I had VSG surgery on Dec. 21st of 2009. Since I've been home, I've been reviewing the BTV gals videos and going through the forums. I am so glad there is a VSG forum since there are not as many people have this as the RNY or lap. I started on a liquid diet on Dec. 7 and since then, (according to my scale at home) I have lost 29 pounds. I started at 328 back in August and on surgery day I was 310 and today I'm 296.2. I got to the docs this afternoon for my 2 week check up and excited to show him how much I have lost. I'm excited to start the Phase III diet of mushy and pureed foods. I'm getting sick of liquids all day. But I'm nervous about still being able to get in the amount of liquids and proteins that I need. I'm a teacher and was able to take the first two weeks off of school starting today. I'll be able to schedule my eating and drinking and vitamin intake. I'm learning a lot just from your posts on this forum and have laughed quite a bit because of the what some of the subjects have turned into. Tamara

Welcome aboard Tamara! Always good to see another VSG person here to compare notes with There are a few of us - check the General board as well when you're looking because we often post there more often than here. But I'm always checking out the VSG board as well to make sure there are no new posts. This is a wonderful, supportive forum. I started here almost a year ago when they were nearly new, and they supported me through all the awfulness of my initial studies in WLS, my insurance's rejection, my trip to Mexico to self-pay VSG in July, and since then. I love these peeps!

Thank you for the welcome everyone. I'm so glad to find a forum for freaks just like me. I am also a self-pay, but I didn't travel to Mexico to get it done. (Though it sounds a lot warmer than the 1 degree it is here in Ohio).
This week it seems I've been on a little stall. Hardly losing anything. This is week 3 and I hear there is a stall at this point in time. I weigh myself every day, I know I shouldn't, but I can't help it. I've noticed I'm getting some water weight probably because of the monthly Aunt Flo coming soon. I hate Aunt Flo's visits! Also, I started eating the mushy food diet this week. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. The doc said it was ok to start exercising too this week so I started the Wii Fit Plus and the elliptical. I just can't seem to get myself out of the house to walk in 0 degree weather.

Hey Tamara Nice to meet you. Stay focused on your eating plan and get a little physical activity every day - the weight loss will happen. I funded my surgery too as our medicare (Government medical safetynet) system does not cover bariatric treatment. The insurance covered some and my contribution converts to just over $10,000 (US dollars). Its a big chunk of cash, but I recon I am worth it Wishing you well on your journey. Pete

Hello fellow VSG'ers! I too am new here and it sounds like everyone else is doing well with their VSG! I had my surgery back in June 2009 and wish I would have found this forum then...but happy to have it how. My decision to have the VSG was the most life changing decisions and cannot express enough how much it has given me my life back. The first few weeks after surgery were confusing--can I do this? was this the right decision? can I make it in the real world with the 'restrictions' and 'needs'. I am here to tell you 6 months out of surgery, 90+ pounds lighter...anyone can do it! The real world just takes a bit of planning, not much, but just wise choices. I don't ever leave my house with out my bottles of water, my meals planned and now snacks. Pre measure my ounces, go in zip bags and I am off and out the door. Any meals out in restaurants are just as easy. You get to take home meals and then I have food for days! The adjustments that are needed are just wise adult choices that I should have been making earlier in life. Good luck to everyone!

Hello and welcome to the forum. If you follow the simple rules of the VSG, you will lose your excess weight. If you can avoid eating sugar and junk carbs, you journey will be easy. Best of luck on your lifetime wellness journey.
