My name is Jody, pre op thanks to my insurance insisting on a six month physician supervised diet. Four months down, two to go and then I can get approval for a sleeve.
I live in Centerburg, Ohio on a 70 acre farm where we raise miniature horses and Christmas trees.

Welcome aboard Jody!

It will be here before you know it - Use the time to start re-educating your melon for your new lifestyle post surgery.

If you like soda, booze and caffeine wean yourself off them now rather a week or two before surgery.

Practice not drinking within 30 minutes either side of your meals - Learn to sip rather than chugga-lug.

Practice chewing each bite 20-30 times and putting your fork down between bites.

Use smaller plates and utensils.

Try and avoid the last supper syndrome as the surgery date gets closer.

Welcome Jody.
Thats bad luck about the 6 month delay, but it is probably good practice for your post surgery eating routine.
How is the supervised diet going?  What have they got you eating and are you dropping some pounds?

Now that your here, why not post a picture of your self.

Good luck

Yea, someone else from Ohio!
I had to do a 6 month diet too. I spent the time 'practicing' my new way of eating & drinking.
And of course, coming here & learning as much as I could. These guys are the best!!

Best of luck Jody!

Hello Jody, from your neighboring state Indiana.  I did the 6 month pre-diet and even though I gained the last month I got approval. It's a great journey.  By the way, I love horses AND trees.  You are so lucky to live on a farm!  That's a dream of mine.   Cheesy

But I got approved RNY.
I actually am celebrating today. Step on the scale something I try not to do often.....lost 91 lbs. total today. 9 more lbs and i am going bleach blonde.
Well, welcome aboard Smiley

Hi Jody,
Nice to meet ya  Smiley

I didn't have to do the 6 month thing.......went into major panic mode before the op and ended up with and extra 20 pounds to lose  Sad So, maybe the diet's a good thing!

I live in Centerburg, Ohio on a 70 acre farm where we raise miniature horses and Christmas trees.

Wow, your farm sounds sooooo cool!  Cool

Looking forward to getting to know you better.  Smiley

Thanks for all the notes, much friendlier group than some of the others that I am on.
I am pretty much practicing the diet, but am not 100% off caffeine, but am down to 2 scoops 'real' coffee and 6 scoops of the decaf. I tried 100% and had a headache and dragged big time.  Cry
I lost 9 pounds at first, but gained back so I am trying to get re-focused on this for the final 2 months.
I was going to try to push at the insurance company to get an earlier date because my left knee is bone on bone, and arthritis in my left foot are making life miserable. My ortho surgeon said only one thing to do, total replacement. Having been through this on the right, I am in no hurry to do it again. So, I take pain meds and use a cane and will hope the weight loss might allow me to postpone the surgery for a while.
As an incentive, I bought two new miniature show horses, very, very, high quality and I want to be able to show them this summer.
I also have a very nice Cardigan Welsh Corgi that I want to show, that involves a lot of time on concrete standing and walking so I have been avoiding it for now.  Sad

I own the farm with a married couple, makes for a stressful life sometimes as he and I are worse than oil and water on everything. Does anybody know of any SHORT publication that I can try to get him to read so he will understand that this is hormonal and diet and exercise aren't going to cut it? He makes snide remarks all the time, and just blows me off when I point at our neighbors who both lost a massive amount of weight and regained it back plus some. I am sure he thinks it is a will power problem.
Shepkatt, thanks for the encouragement, small world that you dated someone from Centerburg of all places. Very small town.
Anybody wanting to see pictures of my horses, I have a website, haven't updated in a while, need to get rid of the crappy music.

Hey there. I'm to the north of ya.
Sorry about the ortho problems. My DH has/had them. Had a hip in - hip out- hip back in then both knees replaced . Still has one hip and maybe ankle work. Good news in the middle of all this he had a RNY and lost 250lbs. He says that surgery much better after the weight loss and rehab is a breeze.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Hope the ortho and co-owner problems ease up for you.  The horses are fabulous!

Welcome aboard!!

I think you are awesome. Minature horses? Corgi's? once you have the surgery. You will be a all over the place.

And even if you still have to have the knee replacement s you'll be in much better shape for it.  My step dad had both knees done and his only comment was why did he wait so long. :-)

Welcome!  oooh!  Animal lover - fun!  I think you may be living out my fantasy life....maybe less the knees!  Ouch!

My aunt had both of her replaced - said it was the best thing she ever did - once recovery was over!

I had my right knee replaced two and a half years ago and recovery was a nightmare. I was in pain for two years, finally figured out it was nerve pain. Darn nerve thinks there is still a joint there. My PCP put me on Gabapentin and whoosh! Pain mostly gone.
So, I am not looking forward to another, but I am sure recovery will be better with the weight gone.
I am looking at my pretty new palomino filly and fantasizing about next year. I have high hopes for her, she is the best horse I have ever owned, and I have owned many minis.

Welcome fellow horse lover.  I have a thoroughbred mare who is coming to live at my "farm" (3 acres)  tomorrow - so excited (I have boarded her for 9 nine years!).  You have very fancy minis - love them all but your new filly promises to be exceptional Smiley  Surgery will be one of the best decisions you ever made, I bet. It was for me (I am six months out).  Sure do have a lot more energy for riding and barn chores!
