With Playoffs underway and Superbowl fast approaching high fat snack foods plague my future. This weekend I made onion dip with greek yogurt and no one was the wiser! YUM!
Any other ideas for WLS friendly Football Food??

Texas Chili Rocks for football games.
Also love turkey meatballs mixed with feta cheese and tzatziki sauce.
Air popped popcorn is good for snacking...cause you can control the butter or just use Molly Mcbutter.
We ate steamed artichokes during last weekends game. Was really good.

OK - Artichokes are not the typical Football Food I was thinking of....BUT - great idea!
And...considering I live a stones throw (maybe more like an hours drive) from the artichoke capital of the world, Castroville!, this might be very fun...
FYI - Norma Jean (aka Marilyn Monroe) was the first Castroville Artichoke Queen during their first artichoke festival. Another side note....one of the few gay bars in the Monterey Area is in Castroville and it is called Norma Jeans, the owner is reputed to "hostess" dressed in Marilyn drag. Shoot - I might have to venture out just for fun....but who even knows if the bar is still around...
Keep the recipes coming!

There is a buffalo chicken dip that is good (just google it and you'll find different variations - keeps well in crockpot, can serve w/ nachos, celery sticks or those chicken crackers)
Meatballs to make subs or just eat (I use Linda F's zucchini meatloaf recipe to make meatballs with and they are SOOOO moist, my pouch loves them)
I make buffalo "wing" chicken fingers. Just coat the chicken tenders w/ egg wash, then dip in crushed special K protein cereal and seasoning SALT (I had sauce here - oops, fixed it). Bake until crispy (turning after 15 minutes) and then coat in your favorite hot sauce (I'm a Frank's girl
I'll have to think somemore!

nachos you know those scoop ones. I put the beans, avacado and greek yougrt in separate zip bags cut off one corner then pipe it into each scoop or onto each chip. Portion control for WLS types and the guys who aren't think it's "a perfect bite". You can put meat in first if you want to.
Little hot dogs or smokies cooked and servred with low sugar sauce Like Chili sauce and SF grape or apricot jelly.
Alot of regular sauces but instead of bread or chips to scoop with - well in addition to veg that lends itself to scooping - celery, mushrooms, carrots cut into chips........
Chili Bar with diffrent fixings
Baked potato bar with lots of diffrent kinds of protein to put on.
Have fun

OK...so the superbowl menu is narrowing. Chili Bar! I am making sure there is a crockpot of chili going in the kitchen so that I can have something to fill up with, I LOVE chili. I will have an assortment of Dips and Salsas. Like an Onion Dip made from Greek Yogurt - it was a hit a few weeks ago. All scoop-able with Flax Chips and veggies. This will be the extent of my Superbowl menu. I need to TRY to hold it together a little bit - this isn't really a holiday that is worth over-indulging for. For those coming over who would like to go Whole Hog so to speak.... We are pre-ordering big sandwiches from the grocery store. (YEAH! ) This is one less thing for me to worry about cooking, and since I won't be eating a hoagie...I am happy to order out. I have been asked to make pigs in a blanket, a Superbowl tradition in my house...no problem, I can have the kids help, they will love, love, love it. And I can't resist... I am going to make these. Football Oreo Truffles ( http://www.bakerella.com/super-bowl-funday/). I won't eat them...but they are just so darned cute! I COULD probably come up with a SF option...but I don't feel like dealing with the temptation. I'll make sure I have some SF ice cream and SF choco sauce and SF cool whip on hand and make myself a sundae if the temptations sets in. I am QUEEN of the SF Sundaes!!

OK guys - you are killing me. I think I am hungry..cuz I reread the previous posts and now want to cook everything. The chicken fingers by CountryMom and Low carb buffalo chicken pizza from Toni. That Buffalo Dip mentioned in this post was also listed somewhere else on the site - that sounds YUM too. I think I will find that Buffalo Dip recipe and have that as one of my dip options.
I may have to add some of these things to my weekly menu - like T2 said.
I was also thinking of setting up my little crockpot (free with purchase) and having some mini franks going in some SF BBQ sauce.
But I have to narrow it down - or we will have food coming out of our ears!
I STILL totally and completely love to eat. (this is a refound pleasure) BUT - I feel so much more in control now and I can make the right eating choices.

I'm just going to make a big ol crock pot of chili and probably a pan of cornbread for the carb eaters.. :-) Maybe a cobbler or something for dessert. I usually don't make SF stuff for parties cuz no one but me would eat it and then I would have ALL of it to eat.. so I just make whatever I want and have a bite or two.. Satisfies my sweet tooth but doesn't send me off into nighty night land.

Lynnda I actually like the flax bread with Chili it's a pretty good sub
Kiersti check your mini franks for fillers and stuff (in case you haven't eaten them before) b/c I have gone nappy nap from hot dogs! I'll post my sloppy Joe Meatloaf recipe (which can be easily made into meatballs)
