Call me crazy, but I just paid $12 for a jar of pickles. Yep, I'm a freak!

All of you know that I am a big foodie. I was watching Food Network last week and saw one of my favorite shows - "The Best Thing I Ever Ate." It was a show about the best snack food ever. Ted Allen raved about:

McClure's Pickles - www.mcclurespickles.com

It's a family-owned business near Detroit, and each jar is hand packed by the family and a few of their workers. The pickles only come in 2 flavors - spicy and garlic dill. Once you eat the pickles, you can actually slice cucumbers into the leftover brine, let it sit for a couple weeks, and you've got more pickles!

I happened to be in our local Williams-Sonoma store yesterday, and behold - there were the pickles! Being the idiot foodie that I am, I forked out $12 to try these pickles. YUM! They're crunchy deliciousness! I got the garlic dill, because I'm not a fan of spicy, but Ted raved about them. You can actually get them for $10/jar on their website, but you have to pay shipping, and they only sell by the case.

Would I pay $12 again for these pickles? Probably not. But I’ll be sure to buy some cukes and make more as long as I can!

Thanks for the info T2!  I'm a pickle lover and my maiden name is McClure-so I'm going to have to try these!  When I first had surgery I feared I would never be able to have a pickle again so I bought pickle pops.  They are icees that are made entirely of pickle juice.  Pretty good stuff.  Check them out at www.thenibble.com/reviews/main/ice-cream/pickle-sickle.asp

Mik - pickle pops don't sound appetizing to me - but I bet they are! Very interesting info.

I've had these pickles for every meal (except b'fast) for the past 2 days. Man, I hope I don't addicted to these expensive things!

I read your post and had to call my friend Tim. Yes Tim McClure of the pickle family. He is great friends with my Brother. I asked him if he knew they were the talk of a WLS forum. We had a great laugh. Small world this Cool

Auntb - seriously?? I saw Tim on the Food Network show! They interviewed him and his brother, and showed them all at work in jarring up the pickles. They're great! Please let him know that I am spreading the good word!

I love pickles. I have not tried them post op. They just have not been on the radar. I think I might try one just to see. By the way I used to buy them individualy and paid about a buck and a half each so I bet that works out to more than 12 a jar.

Tammi I'm not kidding. I have 4 brothers and Tim is a friend of theirs and so mine too. Aren't their pickles good?

Ian I'll try to get you samples but no promises.

Benson get some pickles now. I love them post. I've never seen anyone post about them thought I was wierd.

If any one wants it I have a good recipe for sweet and hot sugar free refrigerater pickles. You just cut them up and put them in the pickeling liquid you make and let them set. No fancy ingredents.

Benson - Ted Allen bought them individually as well - I think it was at a Flea Market in Brooklyn. Other places may have them as well.

Auntb - how cool to know someone famous! These are really great!
