Hey Folks,

So i was going through my Google news feed today at lunch and ran across this article in the LA Times...

http://bit.ly/9Kslzw

After reading it I found myself really angry for a couple of reasons. For starters why is this place still open and taking patients? It seems pretty obvious that there are documented problems but it is still allowed to operate.

Second, in my opinion, these money grubbing butchers are doing irreversible damage to the validity of a procedure that has helped so many people.

This is one excellent reason why research is key before undertaking surgery. Make sure you know who is doing it and what their background is. A good place to start is the ASMBS (American Society of Metobolic and Bariatric Surgery) They, in conjunction with the Surgical Review Corporation, have set guidelines for the creation of Bariatric Centers of Excellence. You can find more info on them here

http://www.asmbs.org/Newsite07/resources/asmbs_coe.htm

Please folks, do your research before you have surgery. There are unethical places out there that could do harm to you.

Okay, done ranting...

It's one of my pet peeves Mike.

People go into these farms with no clue whats required and as we can see some pay the ultimate price.

There needs to be tighter regulation for these facilities imho

Yes, it is sad. By all means, research your surgeon choices. Much of this information that's mentioned in the article is available publicly, and you can check out their medical histories before making your decision.

I saw this from a MM post and OMG what a shame!  I could not believe they were still open, either.  What happened to just that one guy was horrid beyond belief.
