Do you ever wish you had gotten a different type of WLS? If so, why?

Hi DecoLady!
I've been wondering what was going on with you. You and I registered here about the same time.
I've had no regrets at all - none. I know it was the right decision for me. My center's nutritionists, nurses, and my surgeon were supportive of my decision for the LapBand, and would have been just as supportive had I chosen the RNY.
I am so very happy with my decision to go with the LapBand over other types of WLS. And, I am really delighted with the way this journey is unfolding. I'm learning new habits, and unlearning old ones.

Had my Band put on last Wed. going great. Lost 11.5 lbs already, downing protein and soup. Just can't wait to exercise and get to work. Best decision I ever made so far.

Nope, really nope. My surgeon wanted me to get bypass because of my BMI. He thought I wouldn't lose enough weight with the band, but I'm way ahead of the curve so far. I'm thrilled, and very pleased that I have an adjustable, reversible tool.
Can I ask if you're having second thoughts?

So far, I am very happy with my decision. I picked the band because it is adjustable and keeps all of my anatomy intact. Also, because of my age, I felt that anything more drastic is overkill. I'm still young and active. I was a bit concerned at first because RNY patients lose faster, but both RNY and LapBand patients have roughly the same weight loss 3 years out.

I would not change a thing. I have reached the halfway point on my WLS journey, 71 down, 71 to go in 5 months! Woo-Hoo! Oh I am sure that had I gone the RNY route, I would have reached the century mark already, but I have been really focused lately on the lifestyle change part and not so much the weight part. (don't laugh everyone)
Truth be told, i was really into the numbers the first 3 months. but remember that many of the great and wonderfully helpful people on the forums have been here and are post-op for alot longer periods of time than us newbies. I think for me the deciding factor in choosing the band over the other forms was the supplement requirements. It just seemed extreme to me. I like only having to take one chewable multivitamin a day.
Good luck and Freak On!

I went back and forth from RNY to Banding for the past 6 years! Even the last 6 months I would flip flop between surgeries.
Ultimately I chose banding over RNY for a few personal reasons. I am very comfortable with my decision post surgery. I feel great, had a quick recovery, and am very happy to be a banded girl!
Hope that help!

I really didn't have a choice. I have some severe hereditary medical conditions that putting a huge strain on my system would not have been wise. As it was I had to spend a week on a ventilator in a medical coma after the banding and a month at my sons house gaining independance. I have wailed many times about having it done when I eat to much and too fast, but over all, it was one of the best decisions of my life. I am going to live past my next birthday, and that was really in question last year.

i often question my wls choice. i am losing very slow, have had a slip which required emergency surgery, and can't seem to stay restricted enough to lose at a steady rate (i always have to get an unfill for one reason or another). I see my friends with rny and vsg and am very jealous. i still believe in all the reasons i chose the band; I am just not sure it was the right choice for me. Though I have lost 114 lb in 17 months I still have 150+ to go. I would probably be at my goal if i had chose another surgery. I may still go another route but am using what I have for the moment.
