Hi I'm Jewels

« on: March 29, 2010, 07:33:29 PM »

I need help & support from anyone out there who has gained some weight back & How you got back on track to get it back off!! I've gained back 30lbs over the past 2 1/2 yrs.. went through some bad stressful times. But have gotten life together, will celebrate 1 yr wedding anniversary April 4th 2010 & very happy with my new life & husband now. I'm trying to get back what I worked so hard for.. I've became a snacker, grazer & i went back to having a beverage with my meal...the weight started to creep back. I was a size 28w when I had my surgery 11/03 got down to a size 8, then went to a 10 then i'm at a 12-14 now. I have had 3 unsuccessful hernia repair surgeries on same area, which has made me have very weak abdominal muscles which in turn weakened my back & I got a ruptured disc now to go along with hernia repair scarring & 2 mesh patches. So I gave up exercising which was I know a big mistake but with the hernia problem the Dr said I had to do as little as possible in the ab area & then the back problems it was no other choice.. I'm starting to go walking again here this week. I just feel like I'm a failure now after I went through all this.. been depressed & I was or still am an emotional eater.. so when i get down it's always there! Cry

Hi Jewels, and welcome to BTV! Not a gainer yet, but if you've read some of the recent threads here, you'll see that none of us are immune to allowing old habits to creep back in. From the sound of your post, you already know what to do - you just have to get the mind set to apply that. No drinking with meals, concentrate on high protein, low carb, low sugar. The walking you're beginning will really help, too. I don't do any other exercise but walking, and it keeps my weight maintained. You might want to try a day or two of the Liquid Protein Train - just do shakes to get your system back into the losing mode. Won't be easy, but really will be worth it in the long run!

Welcome.  I don't have any real advice for you as I am not to maint. yet, except keep coming back and get active in the boards.  Support is so important.  If you don't have a local group or even if you do, this place is awesome.

Getting back into support is a great start. Do you remember early on how you focused on this daily. That' what will help.

You aren't a failure by any means. You've done a great job. So Instead of looking at yourself as a failure, which will cause feelings of guilt, which in turns, will most likely cause you to graze even more...Look at yourself as someone who is normal and has to get back on track. The good news is YOU know what needs to be done. it's just finding the right motivation.

Today I'm Announcing my "GET BACK ON TRACK" plan for everyone to see as my accountabilitie

What will do to get back on track?

I promise to log everything I've been eating
I promise to write down everything I'm drinking
I promise to get out for a walk at least 3 times a week (it's now on my daily calender)
I promise to NOT have huge expectations on how much weight I'll lose, I will be happy if it's just heading in the right direction.

Any other suggestions?

I recommend going back to journaling what you eat. I know that if I write down what I eat that it makes me think about what I'm eating.

Also, you admit to grazing and drinking with meals - work on cutting out those behaviors.  Admitting that you do this is half the battle.

Good luck.

The 5 day pouch test is a great way to start.  Then I might also suggest to try and focus mostly on protein.  Simple carbs can send us in a downward spiral quicker then anything.

You ARE NOT a failure.  There is some bounce back with wls.  We are human and prone to handling the stresses in life, in some not so healthy ways, especially for those of us who have suffered obesity in our lives.  You have come a long way and are doing great!  Don't loose sight of your accomplishments.  Which have been amazing.  Just coming on here for the support is a positive accomplishment.
