Not there yet but working on it!

« on: April 15, 2010, 11:49:54 AM »

Okay, me and the Hubby are going on a trip in June.  It was not my idea and frankly it is not what I would have chosen but it is what it is.  Long story short, my Hubby's best friend is having a big B-day (50) and his wife wants his friends to celebrate on a cruise to Mexico.  Too bad we have to pay our own way but whatever.  I will have to buy new clothes because I don't have anything that fits me anymore anyway.  I have purchased a few items along the way (enough to keep me from being naked - no one wants that) but my weight is still changing and I have not wanted to make any major investments at this time.  Needless to say, what ever I buy will be for leisure and not work so I still don't want to spend a lot of money.  But the one thing I cannot seem to avoid is a swim suit.  I am getting the full court press on this one.  I remember an episode that had mentioned Toni feeling uncomfortable with a swim suit purchase and frankly... I'm terrified at the prospect of being seen in one.  There are parts of me that are frankly unpleasant.  Am I obsessing? Probably.  Over reacting? Possibly.  But come on... I have lost 140 lbs and done what I can to tone along the way but yikes!  I won't even wear a sleeveless shirt.  Do they make swim suits with sleeves and pants?  I'm just saying....   Cry  How do you guys feel about it?  Should I just act like the entire North American retail system sold out of swim suits that would fit me and skip it?  Cause that is what I am thinking about doing.

Who said you have to wear a SS?  If you’re uncomfortable… Don’t!  There are lots of things to do on board a cruse ship without being in a swimsuit!  Remember... you could NEVER please everyone, so... unless its sin, immoral, or illegal... please your self.  Have a great time, you will need at least on nice outfit for dinner (at least one night) and for the shows... and formal photos if you chose to have them taken… (one night there will be several photographers set up and taking photos from which you can you can choose to buy or not)  other than that... casual will be fine.  Mexico is a nice cruse!  If you stop at Ensanada… be sure to see the blow hole and the big market at the blow hole… (go on the tore bus) you can get some cheep souvenirs there IF you willing to dicker a little.

I think you should by a cute bathing suit....and then if you are still concerned....a cute cover up for it.  You deserve it.

I find that I am still uncomfortable wearing just my bathing suit in front of others. I mean I'm okay with the top but my legs and stomach are...well a sharpei comes to mind. :-)

But I did find some adorable board shorts to match it.  So now I wear the cute top with cute board shorts.

BTW - the board shorts I bought...were in the men's/boys section.  They are longer and more come in more variety then in the womens section.

I now feel sassy in my little outfit.

I agree - shop for a suit that you can stand (many have longer legs to cover up inner thigh wrinkles, or skort-like skirts), and then get a sarong to go around your waist - or a cute cover-up that opens in the front but covers the arms you're sensitive about.  And try to get in your head that very few people will notice the "hanging stuff" but you. Or you can do what I did... bought a freaking two piece! My dd dared me to. She said the one pieces make my boobs look funny.

I find the more I wear it, the more I don't care what other people think. It does sling the boobies nicely and it's reallly EASY TO PEE IN!  Grin When my thighs are particularly floppy and wrinkled, I wear board shorts on top of it to hide some of the damages and I have a lot of cute cover-ups because it gets cold.

I think that the sarong and board shorts are the way to go.  AND I think - you've lost weight, be proud!  Sometimes it's just a matter of that initial viewing - the first time you step out in it - and once that anxious moment is over, you'll feel much better and more comfortable.  It's sort of like facing another one of our demons, you know?  You deserve to be comfortable no matter what, so do what feels right for you!

What I want is a swim suit that is also shape ware. I've found a few sites, but they are expensive. Considering I won't be buying one until next year I'll just save my pennies until that time comes.

I am not liking my saggy skin in my thighs either. I'll just get a srong/wrap that can go in the pool with me. I don't like my stomach/over hang either, which is why I need a shape ware type suit to suck it all in.

In the end though, I have to prep myself with self motivating speeches. I mean I am married and my husband loves me and my body the way it is no matter what. Who am I really trying to impress after that?! Should it really matter that someone else thinks my skin is saggy? Would they be wrong? No, and I don't care because it is my badge of honor!!! This saggy skin has stretched to hold 8 children! This saggy skin is saggy now because I worked hard to go through surgery and lose 130 pounds! I will never have a perfect body and I know no one else has a perfect body either. The perfect bodies I see are airbrushed, photoshopped models. They aren't real!!

I can guarantee you that probably every other woman in a swim suit around you will be worried about some body part on them as well. They are hiding some saggy skin, scar, or what not. They don't like their butt, arms, boobs, etc etc etc etc.

Are you obsessing? Probably no more than everyone else around you! LOL

Until then look for some good covering swim suits. Smiley http://modestswimsuitsandswimwear.com/

Just look around and I am sure you'll find something that you'll feel comfortable in and of course look fabulous in too! Cheesy
