hey,
I had the surgery on April 30, 1998. WAY before it was available laparoscopically. I lost 160 pounds over a 4 year period, 300 pounds down to 140.

Welcome SewJazzy!

Good work on the maintenance!  What are you doing to keep the weight off?  (Many threads have been talking about how WLS is just a permanent diet!)

How much protein do you consume daily?
How many carbs are you consuming daily?
How much sodium are you consuming daily?
How much fat are you consuming daily?
How many calories are you consuming daily?
How much h2o are you taking in daily?
How much exercise are you doing daily/weekly?
What nutritional supplements are you taking in?
How many meals/snacks do you have daily?
Do you use shakes in your regimen?
Do you journal your food/weigh and exercise daily?
What times of day are you eating?

Welcome sewjazzy! How awesome your success is! Take pride in that even if you have had some weight regain.

You are probably dealing with some bounce back weight which is normal for RNY.  Plus over time our bodies being the miraculous things they are learn to compensate for what we have had done to them.  ie the villi (the little fingers in the small intestine regrow) and allow for more food and calorie absorption.  On top of that our metabolism slows down from the tiny amounts of food our bodies took in during the first few years out which makes it even tougher when we see that "normal" bounce back weight and try to take it off.  While some opt for a revision, I would recommend trying to up your exercise, switch it around so you are not always doing the same thing and stick to more protein and waters and limit the carbs.  We wlsers sometimes tend to forget what we were given is not a fix all but a tool.  A tool that changes over time.

I was in the same boat as you.  Seemed no matter what I did, I could not take off the weight once it started back.  My original WLS was a proximal RNY.  After a year and a half of trying to take off the weight without success, and there were days I barely ate a thing, I opted for a revision.  I also found out I had some mechanical failures that are common with the RNY as well in some cases.   I went to a more distal RNY or ERNY as it is also known.  This is where they change the malabsorption component of the surgery.  But there is also a trade off for that as well.  I now have to take about 24 vitamins a day and mostly in the dry form, so you cannot get them OTC and places like Bariatric Advantage or Celebrate do not offer them in the dosages I need them in.  My D3 alone, I take 100,000 ius DAILY.  It is definitely a whole new learning curve.

Good luck to you.  If you have any specific questions please feel free to PM me.
