Hi! My name is Monika.  I had RNY Gastric bypass on March 17, 2009.  That was defintley my LUCKY DAY!!!How more lucky can you get to have your dream come true on St. Patrcik's Day!  So far I have lost 128 pounds and still going strong.  It was a tough journey but I am so very happy that I did it! The best part of this whole thing was meeting the most amazing wonderful people at the Meet N' Greet in Vegas.  I don't know if I have any one particular reason to be chosen as freak of the week, but I was able to buckle my surgically altered freakish self in the seat on the airplane with belt leftovers! I also fit my but into a pair of old pants...along with my 16 year old daughter-yes together! YES in my pants with my daughter! ROFL!  I just cut up my Avenue and Lane Bryant credit cards and next is a roller coaster ride this summer-I can't freakin' weight!!!(PUNN INTENDED) I am so glad I was able to meet all of you BTV rockstars this passed weekend, it was truly a treasure!

Here is my submission for becoming a true FREAK!

My name is Pamela and I had RNY Gastric Bypass on December 29, 2008.

I have lost 110 pounds so far (still have about 30 to go).

I consider myself a freak because I have taken up running.  Running.  Did I just say that? If you had asked me a year ago if I was going to start running after surgery I would have said "Why?  Is someone chasing me?  With a gun?"  No - no running.  But I have found that I love it and I am training for a half marathon.

So here are some pics of me.

The first one is Christmas day right before my surgery - my humiliating moment ever - I broke my mother's chair:

This is a random before picture - I'm in the middle:

This is my first 5K - otherwise known as my jello impersonation:

Here are some pics of me and my kids in my fat pants at about 10 months out from surgery:

This is me celebrating getting into a size 12 with some friends (and obviously some wine):

This is me getting my first tattoo (another reason I'm a freak):

Next is a pic my neice took of me as we were goofing around at a wedding I went to this summer:

This is a 1 year comparison picture:

This is me in my first pair of hooker boots:

And this is kind of a photographic journey.  I call it the many faces of Pam:

This is my first time posting pics - i hope I am doing it right and that they come out.

What a transformation Pam - I love it!  And I really love the boots - I have been looking but it's late in the season and I can't find any - guess I'll wait til next year, and hopefully at goal, to get my hooker boots Grin

You look amazing!

I'm a freak, because since discovering the podcast last weekend (today is Saturday), I have watched every episode on iTunes. That's right, I've missed my bedtime every night and given up housework since discovering the show in order to get caught up. And I haven't even had surgery yet. Your show is great and I'm so glad I found it!

Now, if you could convince your sponsors to have worldwide shipping options... I live in Seoul, and GNC is the biggest source of protein and vitamins here, and the selection is a pale imitation of their US stores. The products that are available are meant for the few bodybuilders around, definitely not WLS patients.

Thanks for the tip, Ian!

Jen

Update: had "undefined" error with my order, but have emailed for help. BTW "Cheap" shipping was $254 on a $244 purchase. :-P

At least in the email I was able to mention BTV... :-D

What type of surgery did you have?
Laproscopic RNY Gastric Bypass

What was the date of your surgery?
June 22, 2009

Total weight loss?
205 lbs since September 2008 at my heaviest of 439 lbs.

Why are you a freak?
I'm a freak, because I live my life on my sleeve. I hide nothing about my surgery or my opions/beliefs about getting healthy and taking control over your health. It odesn't matter if it's on Twitter, Facebook, Newspapers, TV, or Radio. I love telling my story and I hold nothing back. Here's a Internet Radio Show I did last week. It's a little theraputic for me too.  http://soc.li/iVEWS7H

Okay, I'll bite.

-What type of surgery did you have?

 Lap RNY

-What was the date of your surgery?

6/9/2008

     -Total weight loss?

180 lbs

     -Why are you a freak?

I'm a freak because I have used my third year out from surgery to knock a few things off my bucket list.  I did a 6 mile mud run, ran a half marathon, and danced like a freak on stage with one of my heroes, Michael Franti.

Hi everyone! I had a laproscopic RNY on 12/23/2010.  So far, I have lost 90 pounds.  I am a freak because I spent the day with my family yesterday at Disney World and within 15 hours, we went to all FOUR parks AND I fit in and rode ALL of the rides...even Space Mountain!
