RNY April 8, 2008; Revision April 16, 2013

« on: September 05, 2010, 04:45:56 AM »

OK I have got to get a hold of myself NOW!!!!  I am 2 years 4 months out from my RNY and I am not eating right and starting to gain weight!!!!  I am not taking my vitamins and I can't even tell you why!!!!  I am frustrated with myself and I really NEED to have someone to be accountable to!!!!  I have started working out again and am going to join the YMCA, my husband gets a 50% discount through his work.  So I am going to go and check it out this week.  But I have been doing the Walk Away the Pounds DVD here at home for 2 weeks now.  I have started adding back my protein shakes.  BUT I am still struggling with carbs and NEED to get them out of my diet again!!!!!! Yesterday I had chips and today I can feel that puffy feeling I get after eating stuff like that.  I got on the scales and I am 151 lbs. My healthy, happy weight is 145.  So yes I know I am not to far above that. BUT it scares me!!!! I do NOT want to gain weight again and when I see the scales going UP it just freaks me out!!!!!  After having my daughter I was 150 lbs and that is where I feel I lost control of my weight and so I guess that # scares me for that reason and I can NOT allow myself to be that weight again.  SO Is  there anyone out there who is willing to be my accountability partner?  I do not have a support group locally anymore because we moved to a different state from where I had my surgery.  I really miss the support group and being accountable to keep my weight off because I would have to tell them my weight when we did our updates around the room. That helped me to keep on track.  But now that I don't have to do that, it seems to be easy for me to start falling back into old habits. And it is scaring me.
Thanks for letting me ramble on and I really hope I will be able to find someone to help me.

Sweetie, you have to get the supps in cause they will keep you healthy.  I find that if I don't have mine, I tend to eat worse that day.  Don't know if there is a real connection or if it is just in my head, but I really think they help keep me on track.  If you are bored with the ones you have been taking, get a few new flavors to shake things up a bit.  It is great that you made it to goal and that you are wise enough to start getting things back into control before you get too far off kilter, so kuddos to you for getting back on track.

Head on over to the WDYE board and start posting your eating plan for the day.  Even if you don't always stick to it, it helps to plan what you know you need to have for intake for the day.  The days I do that, when I stray off the plan, I am more apt to correct it quickly.

I have been a bit MIA lately, cause life and work just got crazy this last month.  I am headed out on vaca in the morning, (YEAH, I am soooo excited) so I may not have web connections til next Sunday. (I am having trouble justifying the extra $10 a day for the internet when I won't be in the room very much.) I will hook back up with you when I get back and if you want, maybe we can help each other get back in the groove.  I am not to goal yet, and so want to get there.

Kim and others...

I know we talk about the importance of your vitamins.

As a six year post op...I can tell you that if you don't take your supplements, you'll have issues.

Not just the deficiency issues...but issues with staying on track.

Why?

Because you lay off your supplements...your body is going to start looking for help elsewhere...it's made to survive. It adapts. It will tell you you are hungry and you want carbs, something to give you energy because you are lacking that energy from being vitamin deficient.. It will tell you that you are tired and you need fuel.  It will tell you you don't feel right, or good and it will effect your moods and you will go searching for comfort in the things that gave you comfort once before. Food.

If you aren't doing supplements you are just starting off on the path that got you to obesity in the first place.

I can't say it enough...Take your vitamins. Take the right type of vitamins, take them at the right time you should take them.

You'll feel better, eat better and maintain your weight loss easier and longer.

Kim,
It's a little over a year since your original post and I am right where you were last year at this time.  I need a big swift kick in the behind.  I have been slacking on my vitamins.  I eat everything in sight.  Nothing satisfies me.  I can eat cookies, cakes, pies, ice cream (all the stuff surgery was going to make me sick when I ate it) anytime I want without any bad affects.  I am 7 pounds up from my lowest weight, which wasn't even goal and I cannot continue to gain.  I love my new life.  I can walk, I can purchase size L clothes, I am happier than ever.  What is wrong with me that I can't get back on track?  Even when I stop and think, WWID? (What would Ian do?) or think of any of you who have been so helpful here it's like the Devil makes me put the food in my mouth.  And I know it's my choice.   After my 18 mo check up I may break down and see the psychologist, but pouring out my thoughts here is alot cheaper.  If anyone has any good thoughts on how to get back on track, I would appreciate it!

((((((HUGS Vicki)))))) Sadly I ended up gaining 10 lbs from my goal weight and am working on getting it back off and getting things under control again. I am starting back up with my protein and vitamins. I also started doing WW's and tracking what I am eating. I am working out at Curves too. I have lost 2 lbs already! We can do this!!!!!

Ladies - You both are way ahead of the curve and look at what you've both said.....

You know what to do and you're making the changes - This is when the real work starts and we have all the tools to combat our demons and keep this wonderful healthy body/lifestyle we've been blessed with.

I keep my dead-man walking pic (444lbs) with me and look at it when I need a swift kick up the arse!

How far are you from Fort Wayne? I will come and kick you in the backside if you promise to do the same for me when the time comes.

There are a few people here on the forum from Indiana and we would like to have a BTV branch group. What do you think?

Terre,
I think branch groups are a wonderful idea!  Sadly we are about 4 hours away from each other so we'll have to settle for behind kicking over the web.
I'm doing better since I posted, so I'm going to keep visiting BTV and getting re-inspired.
