I assumed I would be having the RNY because of it's success rate with Diabetes resolution; however, when I had my visit with the surgeon he recommended the VSG. He says my insurance covers it and he feels I'm a good candidate because I've only had diabetes for a short time (pre-diabetes four years & type II for about six months) and because of my lower BMI.

As I research, I see that the VSG looks like a viable option but I'm concerned about the resolution of diabetes. The RNY has such a track record. Losing weight is great but I really want to get rid of my disease. Any of you here with the VSG have their diabetes not resolve?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

According to this study, resolution rates for Type II diabetes are the same with VSG and RnY:

It only covered people 4 months out though.

If you are really concerned about diabetes resolution, the DS has the best stats on that particular co-morbidity, though.

I walked out of the hospital off my diabetes and BP meds. My first A1c post op was 5.8. Pretty good resolution for me.
