Hi everyone,

Let me give you a little background first. Before I moved earlier this year, I had the beginning of a bike trail located directly across the street. It was part of the Rails To Trails program in New Jersey where they took old railroad lines and turned them into trails to be used for walking, running, cycling, etc. The trail was marked every quarter mile and had a bench to rest on every half mile which made it easy to determine how far you traveled. It was a great trail and ran for about 7 miles into the next town. I was even walking it this winter after 2 of the 3 snow storms we had that dropped 20 plus inches of snow. The township would keep the trail plowed the same as the streets.

In April, I moved to a different town about 15 miles away. Unfortunately, there are no trails nearby so I am riding on the shoulder of the roads. I do not have an odometer on my bike so I would go out on a ride then come home, get in the truck and measure my mileage that way. Well today I stumbled across a website where you cam map your own route. You just enter the route you wish to travel and as you enter roads the mileage adds up on the right hand side. An added benefit...After the run I entered the start and stop time and they also told me how many calories I had burned. It appears as though you can use this website with mobile devices also and can tie it into your social networks too.

The website is: http://www.mapmyrun.com

Yes Ian, i know what you're talking about. I put it on my wish list for my birthday at the end of the month. Everybody says they don't know what to get me so this year, I'm helping them out by making a list...clothes with updated sizes, which protein bars or powders to buy and the speedometer/odometer thing for my bike.

There is also this one:

ridewithgps.com

I like it better than mapmy(fillintheblank) which tends to give me technical difficulties.
