WOW … tomorrow’s the day. Today, I only work until 12pm and then I’m coming home to start the bowel prep. It’s almost time to start my new life!

Yay!

I don't know what "the bowel prep" is, but it doesn't sound too pleasant. Hopefully, that will be the worst part of your surger.

You guys are never gonna believe the day I've had ...

I am a manager in healthcare so I have to hand off my department to someone else while I'm gone (for six weeks, I might add ... that's what my surgeon requested). I have been very stressed about doing this because we've had some layoffs and even senior administrators have recently been let go. I've kind of been second guessing whether this is the time to go out. Anyway, I get to work early this morning completely focused on working as fast as I could so I could leave work at 12pm today for the bowel prep (drinking icky stuff to make you go poo). My boss called me first thing and asked me to come down to his office, right now. I immediately got a sinking feeling like "pink slip" but I trudged on down anyway. Got to his office and I got a raise!!! ... not a small raise but a substantial raise. He said that I work hard and produce good results and he wanted to reward good behavior. I'm still in shock. I will admit that the money's nice but I'm more concerned about job security. I'm thinking they're not going to give a great raise to someone and then let them go ... I feel fantastic! I have been on cloud 9 all day and unable to focus. So much so that I had to take work home to finish before surgery tomorrow. My husband asked me why I brought work home the night before surgery and I replied, "This is the type of work you get from someone that earns raises".

I finally just finished emailing all my work back into the office so now I'm free as a bird for six weeks ... what a perfect way to go out on medical leave :-)

I can't wait to start my new life tomorrow  Smiley

Good morning to you too.  I couldn't sleep the night before either.  I know the waiting at this point seems to drag by, but it'll be over before you know it.

I didn't sleep the night before and when the anesthesiologist gave me the pre-surgery jab I nearly nodded off as I was so toasty under the hot air blanket Wink

I hope everything went well! You may be hating life for the next few days, but just keep in mind that it's very temporary. You'll be relaxing and loving life for about 4 1/2 of that 6 week leave.

Congratulations on the raise!

Thanks guys ~ I am back home. Feeling like crap but happy to be through the hospital phase. Taking Lortab for the pain, gas-x strips for the rumbling in my tummy and liquid Tylenol for a fever spike yesterday (101.2 but today I'm back down to 98.2). My immediate fluid goals are 1 oz every 10 minutes which is hard. Yesterday, I was only able to get 27 oz of fluid so I have work to do.

Thank you for all your support :-)

Every day will get easier. I can't believe you are getting in so much fluid! I was proud of myself for getting in about 6oz. that first week or so. That will undoubtedly help you feel better faster, as well.

Just thought I'd check in ...

My surgery was last week and I'm just now starting to feel 1/2 normal. My pain is diminishing a little more every day but the exhaustion is just debilitating. In my whole life, I have never taken naps; however, I've been napping a lot in the last seven days. I have had considerable nausea postop but the doc called in some Zofran & a Scopolamine patch for me and I'm feeling better. I do have a drain that I have to have taken out tomorrow so I'll be able to see the MD for a few moments.

In my first week of postop life, I've lost the 12 lbs I gained during hospitalization plus 3 more. So happy to be on the loser's bench with the rest of you freaks!
