I am almost 2 months post op and I really do not enjoy eating at all. I have thrown up several times and I think it's just that the food did not agree with my pouch. My limit from my nutritionist is 4oz. I rarely can eat an entire 2 oz at a time. So, I still have to drink the protein drinks because there is no way I can get my protein from food alone. I simply can't eat enough food. I feel full so quickly and i know it will hurt if I try to eat anymore. I do try to eat slowly and I certainly chew chew chew my food...but I am usually done eating after 15 minutes simply because I'm full.
I'm also a vegetarian and my pouch has decided it doesn't like meat substitutes or eggs. So, I'm eating a lot of cheese products to try and get in my protein because my pouch likes cheese. Did you find that your pouch didn't tolerate things early on that you are able to eat now?
And I truly ate out of boredom and emotional stress before so it's not like I really took the time to enjoy my food then. But I am really dreading eating right now and am doing it solely because I know I have to. Don't get me wrong. I'd still have the surgery in a heartbeat. I think i'm just discouraged right now because I've tried so many foods that I enjoyed before surgery that now I get one or two bites into...and realize that I'm not going to be able to eat them because my pouch is rebelling. I don't always vomit...but usually because I just stop eating whatever the offending food may be.
I did worry about a stricture for a little while...but again the cheese goes down without any problems and so do my fluids. So I don't think I have a stricture. I think I have a picky pouch! (:

You are still in a very trickey time. Your new pouch it still trying to figure out what it wants. It's hard but it will get easier, I promise.

Thanks for the encouragment, Toni. I'm a little more than two months out, too. I don't get the pleasure from eating at all like I used to and that's weird to me. The pouch is very tempermental. Things it liked yesterday, it may hate today. I have a lot better luck with protein bars than real food, but that bothers me because it's like I'm eating a candy bar. (I'm not eating junk, but it's close enough to make me feel like I'm sliding into old habits.) They don't make me dump like real food does sometimes.

Ian - thank you! That really does make me feel better. You are right on the money. This has been going on for a couple of weeks now and I'm at 8 weeks out now. So, I'll just keep eating what I can and hoping this gets better in the next month. I do have an appointment in March for a follow up so hopefully things are better by then!
Thanks for the support Toni and Jody (which is my name too by the way!)

Veggiegirl,
Welcome from another vegetarian!!! So glad to see you here!!
I'm a year out now, but at 8 weeks I did find the meat substitutes to be disagreeable to my pouch. They're very dense protein and often made my pouch feel overfull and "heavy". For me, it got better, lots better, but it takes time.
At this point I eat a lot of veggie hot dogs (Yves Jumbos are my absolute favorite - 16 grams of protein each!). Morningstar Farms sausages are great and have 10 grams each. Tofurkey I love - just doing a rollup with cheese - but once in a while even now it really doesn't agree with me. I had a little incident with it a couple weeks ago - it just felt again, "heavy" in my stomach - and now I can't look at it. But that's happened before and I know it will pass. Gardein also has tons of protein, although I'm not as fond of its texture as others. Oh, and I eat a lot of Yves chicken strips - they're so good chopped and put into veggies, chilis, stews, etc. Nuts and nut butters are also mainstays for me.
I still drink at least one protein shake a day, as I feel better when my protein intake is on the higher end, and that's such an easy way to get it up - I rely often on a canned shake I get at Trader Joes that has 35 grams in it - first thing in the morning it goes down smoothly.
It will get better! Stay in touch, it's nice to have anohter veggie person around!

The month of misery states it well!
I didn't feel like eating for at least the first 3 months. I remember I made some homemade soup sometime in the 2nd month. It was the first time I actually enjoyed eating. I got some veggies that were wonderfully soft and some protein (I think it was a chicken soup). Such a delight!
This was also a time where my depression was on the upswing. I c ouldn't use the food anymore and my inner sadness was overtaking me. I didn't want to go back on my meds, so I opted for prayer. I believe it worked.
It will get better! I promise!

Hang in there it will get better. I'm 18months out and I still go through periods that eating is blech or a chore but not hard.
I am glad of this - think about it that means that my pouch is working and my additude to food is diffrent.
