I found out a few months ago my pouch was in my chest xray. Didn't think anything of it until I went in for vomiting. My doctor took out some of my fill so I could have my carpal tunnel surgeries without worrying about throwing up after medication etc. I had been ok for awhile, then the food became an issue. I have kept the 50 pounds I lost off for 3 years, but still a bit from my goal.

The doctor is convinced that my hernia repair has failed and that the heartburn and vomiting will continue. He wants to do a revision and I am worried. Don't know if I should just take it out and deal with the gain, or do the surgery and worry about being the risks.

He won't convert to the sleeve unless I remove the band and wait 6 months. I worry insurance won't cover the sleeve at that time.

I go in for the Upper GI tomorrow to see where I stand. He said the band kept the weight from going up and up and up. and I maintained the 50 pound loss, I could just benefit from the last 75.

Have you considered getting a second opinion? Some surgeons are adamant about doing revisions from a band in two surgeries but some are convinced it's better to do them in one surgery if at all possible. If you can find someone who will do it in one surgery, I think that's best, myself.

I talked with my GP and it was decided to do RNY. My fibromyalgia  and Hashimoto's  combined with failing my EKG ( just a scare all ok) made me decide.

I am still upset about it, I feel I failed with the lapband. The surgeon said you kept off almost 50 pounds with the band and just simply couldn't tolerate the fill needed to get me to goal. I go in 1/7 to have my revision to RNY. I still feel the band is a great tool, I just can't handle it.

I am terrified of the GI complications some have, but am trying not to focus on the negative.

I had the RNY a almost a year ago - I worried about the GI issues - but honestly I have not had any complications to date.  I too might have wanted the sleeve - but RNY was what insurance would pay for and at my weight it was the right choice.  This is a great board for support for whatever you end up doing.

We talked about it possibly being women that caused the GI issues. Especially when they had big babies and the pelvic floor muscles are weakened.

I just pray that I feel better, I am miserable now. Taking the band out will be a pain, but I can't help but feel sad I am in this place to need this surgery. <- Last pity party comment!
