I don't know what's been wrong with me for the past week. I've been getting my usual amount of sleep and plenty of food (too plenty, but I've made some progress there.) However, three times last week, when my kids were out of class at their classes I don't teach (violin, Bible...)I had to put my head down, because I was so tired. One day, I fell asleep twice! On Saturday, I went to Subway for lunch. A 6" takes me about an hour to eat even after I pull off as much bread as I can. While I was "resting" between halves of the sandwich, I fell asleep at the table-- for over thirty minutes. Yesterday, I walked five hours (at a slow pace) and then went to a soccer game, which I mostly just dozed through. When my kids are in the class, or I'm doing something, I'm fine, but whenever I'm not actively doing something, I immediately get drowsy. What's up with that? I doubt it's related to my sleeve, it's just weird. Or is it? Has anyone else experienced this who is not recovering from surgery?

Although I had an RNY about 14 months ago, I have been experiencing something similar to this also. Usually it occurs immediately after eating. I'll sit in my recliner and it just feels like someone sucks the energy out of me with a straw. Next thing you know, I'm waking up around 30 minutes later. My last bloodwork came back ok so I don't have a clue what's going on. Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe from earlier in the day? I don't know. All I had to eat for dinner tonight was about 3 ounces of turkey and 4 brussel sprouts with some fat free ceasar dressing and grated parmesan for dinner and BAM! out for a half and hour. Now my pouch is upset again.

Jen I've experience what you have, but even prior to surgery.  I had a sleep study done and was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea.  I stop breathing during the night so my body wakes me without me knowing.  Even though I sleep all night, my body doesn't get the deep, restful kind of sleep it needs so it snatches sleep when I'm in "idle" mode, especially after I've eaten something.

Have you ever had a sleep study done?  If not, perhaps you ask your doctor to give you a referral for one.

I get this in the afternoon when I have something that is both carby and high in sugar.

Also, during my first 6-10 months, I still had periods of being tired. We're still "recovering from surgery" IME during the entire first year.

Finally, I found out recently that, even though I'm in bed, I am not necessarily sleeping that well. So the quantity of my sleep may be acceptable but the quality sucks. And that has an impact too.

if anything, I've been eating closer to plan of late. I've always had sleep issues. but lately I haven't been waking up as much during the night, sometimes only once or not even at all. Weird. I made it through today without a nap, but I fell asleep after my alarm went off and slept another 30 minutes. I'll see how the next few days go...

Too many carbs will send me to snooze land.  I have had sleep issues too, but I had another surgery in Jan and my sleep schedule got all wonky so I think it is just taking me time to adjust. I hope that is what it is.  I am getting my fluids and prot and iron, but I sure would like to have more energy.  Here lately I have felt like my batteries are drained.
