I can not believe how quickly time has gone! Despite all the resarch and talking about surgery I have done, it does not seem real yet that tomorrow I will be having most of my stomach removed  Shocked.

For the past two weeks I have been on a liquid protein shake diet to help reduce the size of my liver prior to surgery.  It has been surprisingly easy.  I have been having cravings of course, but nothing I couldn't get passed, and frequently had to remind myself to get in all four shakes each day.  I just have not had very much physical hunger.  From what I have read, it seems that this is common after surgery as well.

**warning** this may be gross.
One side effect I have been having is related to what comes out the other end.  I swear it is like an old outhouse.  The other day I was in the bathroom and my 3 year old daughter came barging in. She got a horrified look on her face and ran out yelling "I don't like that smell".  Well, neither do I, but it may keep her from barging in on me again for a while Wink.  I regularly think of Ian's quote "Never trust a fart"  Well, I now understand.  I have had issues with the silent but deadly, and more than just gas comes out.  I really hope that eventually this will get better...?

I do my pre-op cleanse this afternoon/evening.  Since I have not had anything solid in two weeks, perhaps it will not be that bad.
Well, I know this has been pretty long, but I want to thank all of you for the posts and advice these past couple of weeks.  I am looking forward to becoming a FREAK!!!

Congrats on your surgery! As for the other problem... beats me! My problem after surgery was being bound up in the bowel department.  Thought I was gonna die it was so bad... pain meds can have that effect - so maybe you'll just be at normal after.   Wink

Thank you all so much for your positive thoughts.  My surgery went well and quickly.  I actually got up and walked three times on the day of surgery, which the nurses were pretty amazed about.

I think it is pretty normal right after surgery, but I have been having a really hard time getting liquids in.  I managed two protein shakes yesterday but it was a pretty long process to drink each one.  I have been working hard on the water, but that can hurt if I take two sips to close together.

One think I am a bit concerned about is that I have GAINED 10 lbs. since surgery.  I know they gave me lots of fluids by IV in the hospital, and there is probably a lot of swellling around my incisions, but I am worried about all this water retention.  It must be water retention considering how few calories I have consumed these past couple of days.

Did anyone else experience weight gain in the first couple of days after surgery?

All very normal, suzu. That's all fluids and swelling, and it will be gone before you can blink.

And please don't try to force liquids. Just sip what you can. I never got all my fluids in until at least 3 months out - just not possible. The biggest thing is not to dehydrate, and as long as you're sipping when you can, that won't happen to you.

Keep us posted!

So happy to hear that all went well. Keep up the good work. Sip and walk. Sip and walk. Oh yeah, as Ian would say, don't forget to fart. Lol

Glad to hear all went well. I am going for my sleeve on Monday and after reading some of your comments am bringing some of my favorite clear fluids with me to the hospital. Hopefully, that will make the sipping, walking, and farting (nod to Ian) a little easier.
