I keep reading about the 5-Day Pouch Test, but I don't see it explained anywhere.  Can someone explain what it is?  What is the goal? and what are the eating guidelines or restrictions?

http://www.5daypouchtest.com
Here's the blurb from the website......
Is the idea behind this that we "allow" our stomachs to shrink down a little and thus get that full-feeling sooner again?
"The 5 Day Pouch Test is first intended to allow your pouch to rest, just like right after surgery. Next, it is a chance to go through the stages of the post-surgery diet in a quick and practical time period. During this time you should feel a tightness in your pouch, particularly if you have been eating slider foods or drinking liquids with your meals. The focus on proteins will help bring your metabolic hormones into balance (vs. insulin highs and lows) which will help burn fat and reduce hunger cravings. The purpose is not to lose weight, however, many people report weight loss as a happy side effect to gaining control of their eating habits and returning to a protein adequate diet."

Ahhh.  I didn't know there was an actual site for it.  Thanks, Ian.

A lot of freaks use it for de-carbing

Another popular one is the 3-day protein train or LPT (Liquid Protein Train)

Just be aware that this is not some bariatric protocol, but a made up diet that some patients came up with. Personally, I think it's both unhealthy and a crash diet and I wish people wouldn't promote it like it's got some bariatric stamp of approval.

I can only get about 1 3/4 of the way thru the 2 day "liquids" only fast. I literally become sick to my stomach and I have stomach pain, like an ulcer. I need to have a "soft protein" meal for supper on the 2nd day rather than wait for breakfast on the 3rd day, something like scrambled eggs with maybe a bit of cheese. Otherwise, I feel terrible at the end of day 2.  That is the only "modification" that I make, and it works well for me.

It does bring you "back to basics" and if nothing else, helps you to become re-aware of what you are putting in your mouth. It also is a very good indication just how much carbs you have re-introduced into your eating, especially at the end of day 1. The crappier you feel, the more carbs you've been eating because you are suffering from withdrawal; that feeling tends to subside by the end of the 2nd day.

It's a tool like anything else...it works for some but maybe not for others.. Smiley

Good for you! I hope you had something delish after your dive! Smiley

Uh, actually, the reason why I have an issue with not tolerating only liquids after less than two days is that I may actually have an ulcer. I am 18 months out and stomach pain on an empty stomach and waking up in the middle of the night with stomach (er, pouch) pain is not normal. I am back on the 2x per day 30mg each of prevacid and scheduled for an upper GI endoscopy in 10 days. Evidently, the new junction created between the pouch and the relinked jejeunum is VERY vulnerable to ulcer.

Live and learn, I guess..

Did doing liquids for that long have anything to do with your weight loss goals, or was is for a good detox?  Not trying to get personal, but I'm still trying to learn why ppl do certain things.  Thanks.

Nothing at all to do with my own weight-loss - I had a friend who was struggling two weeks into her four week liquid pre-op diet. So I made her a deal that I'd do it with her to help her out.
