Hey Pete - I'm new here also - had my surgery on 1/12/12 - so I'm just a few days ahead of you.  I'm now 17 days out - and the pain has gotten very manageable - let's stay in touch -

Sounds like you are set for success, Pete.

What you described sounds like a Roux-N-Y (or RNY, in WLS - speak) That's what I had...and there are a lot of us here. The only other option I knew about was the lap-band (my first consideration) but the RNY is the best for me. There are others where you don't "dump" and since sweets are a BIG problem for me, I need that deterrent to keep from eating them.

You will be amazed at what you learn over the next weeks that you didn't get in your pre-surgery learning experience. I thought I was prepared - NOT!

But that is why this place is so cool - one or the other of the people here has been through whatever you are going through...just ask and we will give you advice - and tell you to go to the doctor, if that's what it takes. We aren't doctors..we are peers...

Welcome and congrats on the life changing decision!
Yellow and firm areas are normal.  Pain is normal...you also had hernia repair...it's a big deal.
Water is your BEST friend right now...drink it!
Sleeping in the recliner is what your body needs to help heal too...you'll get back into the bed eventually.  Take it easy.
