I guess this is just a good news day around here - which is so nice. Could not believe the scale this morning when it showed I've lost 71 lbs. and am no longer in the obese category (Just barely - 29.9 BMI - but I'll take it)!

I am so completely stunned. I know it's just a number but it is a big psychological thing for me. For starters, I knew I was obese - and denied it for so many years - I have little recollection of what it felt like to really have a BMI that low.

Strange, but about 15 years ago - when I became eternally trapped in the over 30 BMI category - (on my way to the over 40 BMI category) - my life took a bad turn. Sure, I had a wife and kids, etc - but my life, more often than not, was dominated by the negative. My BP was sky high. If I wasn't stressed or depressed or grumpy I was suffering some ache or pain or trying some new medication for my latest strange health condition. I was always sick and chronically tired. I am starting to look back on that now and the only thing I can compare it to is being thrown into the ocean and struggling just to stay afloat.

That's a great analogy.

We really don't know how our weight weighs on us, both physically and mentally until it's gone.
