I have had the hardest time finding a protein bar that tastes good. After the first review of the Supreme Peanut Butter and Jelly bar, I had to try it.

Oh, man, finally something good tasting that also gives me the protein I need! I use them as dessert (one of the 6 meals a day I am told to eat by my doctor)(HeeHee..) and they satisfy my sweet tooth really well. I am looking forward to trying the new flavor - anything crunchy sounds just fine to me!

I get mine at WalMart - that is the cheapest place I have found them. I generally eat half of one, though I have been known to finish one if it's been that kind of day  Wink

I went to the local GNC and it was like Supreme Bar heaven! They had every flavor available! But they were pretty expensive compared to the WalMart, so I just sampled a couple.

The one I really want to try is Rocky Road Brownie...Holy Cow! How could that be anything but tasty? Haven't been able to find it, anyone know where I might get one? I guess it's back to the GNC...

Anyway, just thought I'd go on about my fav bar...hope you like them , too. Smiley

My favorites are the chocolate carmel and the peanut butter pretzel, but the sugar alcohols get me so I have to be really careful.  When I did the big ones I dumped!  Embarrassed But I agree, they taste heavenly and it beats eating candy!  Wink

They were my very favorite bar for a long time, and I still do love them. I just tended to eat too much of them - yes, you can get too much of a good thing! Then I found the Quest bars, and I really adore them as well. Because they are all natural, they seem to be better for my tummy - even though the calorie count is still high. I love protein bars in an emergency, but I do try to keep them at a minimum.

Questbars are actually my current preferred bars - but they are only available online for now- after that the 2:1 or 3:1 bars at GNC, and then the supreme protein. There's another one at Walmart I like sometimes too, but yes - it is too easy to go overboard because they taste so VERY good.

I actually avoid protein bars because to me they are glorified candy bars and contain too much crap for the calories......

I LOVE to carry one of these in my purse for emergencies!  I can't wait to try the new Chocolate Peanut Butter Wafer Crunch!

They are so good that I have to hide them or my husband and kids devour them.

So true on all counts.

Ian, I cannot argue with you and your point is a good one, but to me a half a small bar makes me so very happy that they are worth it to me.

The large ones I have to cut in 3 pieces - can't imagine eating a whole one - oh, the dumping that would cause!

And I can't eat one by itself - have to have a little protein like jerky - or I dump like crazy.

But as a treat with low sugar compared to candy and the added protein, I am enjoying these treats.

Strangely enough, I really don't like the Quest Bars. They just don't taste good to me. I always think it's so funny how we all taste things so differently. Everyone else seems to like them lots, me, not so much...curious...

Keilah - do you have a Vitamin Shoppe in your area? They are now carrying the Quest bars, and it would save you the shipping.

Leslie - have you tried microwaving the Quest bars for about 10 seconds? Totally changes the texture and flavor. Amazing!

We have one on the southside of town, I know for sure, so I'll be checking, but I just ordered some other stuff too and ordered through netrition, so it's only a flat $4.95 for the shipping. Thanks for the heads up though!  Cheesy

Supreme bars are at 7-11 in my area. And at a good price too.

Microwaving, huh, Tammy...now that is worth a try... What flavor is best for the microwave the one I remember most is the vanilla one and it was just nasty!

Yep just like a candy bar to me too.

They are usually so sweet, they leave me wanting more sugars.

Unfortunately I'm one of those people who eats one bad carb and I'm going to be on a carb binge the rest of the day.
When I say bad I mean sugars, breads, pastas.  Veggies don't do it to me, but those other things sure do.

Heck even Snickers is making a protein bar.

Scott - I know you posted that sarcastically - I LOL'd in the store when I read the stats on those things! What a joke! At least the Supreme and Quest have better stats than that one!

Yes it was sarcastic,

There is 20g of protein in them..  But to me they all taste so good, I can't eat just one.
Well not all of them, some of them are horrid, but you get the idea.  The ones that I like the taste on are like candy to me.

It's an I can't just eat one type of deal.

Ooh, I hate the Snicker's Marathon bar. It's like eating chalk! I was surprised because Snickers is my favorite candy bar. Or it was ... not sure I have one now.

Hey Marie,

The candy of choice is the one we bought on our ride over Mt. Hamilton
Mini Payday bars!

I can't even think about candy without knowing the pain I'd be in when I dump. I keep wondering how you guys got brave enough to try that first piece of dessert!

I actually don't want to try it...I like not being able to eat chocolate. I just tried a new Protein bar called Detour. 4 bites and it's taking me DOWN! Beaten up by a protein bar!!! AAAAAAA! It hs 30 grams of protein and says it's low sugar, but I think they are LYING!!!

It will not be on my list, for sure...

it was probably the sugar alcohols in it Leslie

I have that problem with the larger protein bars.  There is just too much sugar or sugar alcohols in them.
Their smaller sized ones and it's not an issue.

For me it is a quantity issue.  Knowing how much of it I can have, and that seems to be a sliding scale.

Good for you for not even trying it.  It's a slippery slope.

It's not bravery for me because I have a sleeve. So the sugar is only an issue indirectly (if it causes other bad behavior).

Also, a lot of people with bypass find out that they can eat this stuff if they are doing intense exercise and not dump. My theory is that it's because our digestion slows WAY down during exercise so that keeps it from being overwhelmed by the sugar.

I just love the mini-payday bars when I bike. They are salty and also have protein and fat and they have two kinds of carbs which is ideal for endurance sports. I have a big bag of them in my sports food cabinet. Which, until you mentioned them, Seht, I had *completely* forgotten about. I hope I don't start craving them now that I know they are there! If I do, I will totally blame you! Wink

For me, I am the opposite.  I totally dump when I am doing intense exercise.  Sometimes I will have a cookie or 2 after work or in the middle.  On occasion that small amount will make me dump where the same amount or even more will be just fine if I'm not exercising.  I really have to be careful.

I had issues with the sugar alcohols in the Supreme bars - tasty - but the rumbling pouch and all the farting!! Not worth it!

I like (and so does my pouch) the Detour Bars - only 6 grams sugar (no sugar alcohols listed like the Supreme) and 15 grams protein.

It's my 3pm snack at work -A treat for a hard day at the office, surrounded by homemade cakes, cookies and "healthy" chocolate chip muffins!

Leslie - funny indeed how we have the same surgery but not the same results with foods!

I would tend to agree with Ian - be careful with protein bars - they are usually high in fat and carbs (they got me into trouble last time I did a high protein diet) - that said as a treat - they are good (I eat 1/4 to 1/2) I'm thinking frozen will be good.  I have found EAS CARB CONTOL - to be the lowest fat carb numbrs and high protein

I normally eat one as a replacement for a meal if I seem to be so busy I know I won't get anything down.. If I don't eat anything my blood sugar drops and it is snoozeville for me..  No bueno!

Just as an FYI - The PB&J Supreme Protein bar has 9 sugar alcohols.. the new Chocolate Peanut Butter Wafer Crunch has 6.  It seems to sit better than the others..  Although I haven't let my rumbly tummy stop me from eating them when the mood hits!  :-)

i am enjoying them as a dessert or treat because I find that if I eat one on it's own I am in trouble. Just a little sweet something to top off the day.

I am so in love with the Rocky Road ones and I do enjoy the wafer ones...only a half at a time, though, then I'm good.

I get them at Walmart (cheapest but fewer flavors) or the CVS pharmacy - more expensive but they have all the flavors.

As with everything - it's a choice. That's what I love about life - we get choices!  Cheesy
