WLS ain't for wussies

« on: March 22, 2012, 06:50:22 AM »

I moved this board up to the main section .. it was buried WAAAAAY down below and I think that pictures of a journey are very important.

With as prevalent as body dysmorphia is in this community, documentation with pictures is sometimes the only way we can see our progress..

So..  Remember to take lots of pictures..  And post em if you got em!

I am attaching my 8 year B&A.  In November of this year 2012 it will have been 9 years since my surgery.  I am proud of the fact that I DID NOT revert back to my old ways..  That I changed my lifestyle and I started putting me first.  Sometimes I forget for a little while but I never want to go back to being the gal on the left - so pictures HELP!

Wow!  Are you psychic?

First of all, you look awesome!  I am so impressed.  Way to go.  I love that you put out such a positive message and set a great example.

Second, I really struggle with this topic.  It is getting ridiculous, even I realize that.  I know in my head that I have lost weight, changed my life and gotten healthy.  I go to the gym constantly and I have never in my life worn the sizes that I wear now (22/24 down to 6/8) but it is easy to lose sight of all the changes.  What I see in the mirror and what everyone else sees are very different.  Support group help and I strongly encourage everyone to attend sessions if they are available or stay on this board for the understanding and encouragement.

Third, I avoided the camera like the plague before and now I feel like a hypocrite if I let someone take my picture.  But honestly, how else do you document the change.  It really is the only way to be objective because your mind plays tricks on you sometimes.

Fourth, and finally, it is so easy to lose sight of how far we have come on this journey and only focus on what is left to accomplish.  It is great to have goals and strive to reach them but after having lost 150 lbs, those last 15 are kicking my backside and it is all I think about.  I should be celebrating my accomplishments and so should everyone else.

I do not want to go back either but sometimes I think we should smell the roses (including myself) and appreciate the road along the way and give ourselves a much deserved pat on the back.

I'm just sayin...  Good point Sheppkatt.

Fantastic work Lynda! You remind me so much of my friend Faith... Seriously you have a twin in Ohio... Same bubbly smile & take no prisoners attitude!

I am so encouraged by everyone's before and afters. I am a photographer... And my excuse for not being in pictures most of he time was that I am a snob about composition. That is except when my MIL, asks me to step out of pictures with my boys.... Long issue, I've already dealt with at the therapist office.

I now find myself more and more stepping into pictures, it is easier knowing that I am documenting my journey.

BTW--- I'm at the 4 day mark until the dietician visit and 6 day mark until I meet with my surgeon. Records, therapist, insurance per approval have all been checked off.

Here's keeping my fingers crossed that there are no surprises...
