Hi all

A very close friend was killed when he crashed his motorcycle just about a month ago.  Since then I have had no motivation to go to the gym...I was doing so good.  I am also struggling with lovely stress migraines.

I just need some pep talks and motivating words of wisdom.  So...here I am Smiley

Thanks

Do you need motivation or to find an activity you enjoy so much that you don't need motivation?

For me, it can be both. Like right now I'm not allowed to work out much. When I do feel like I can work out though, I have completely lost the habit of doing it. I'm like the newbie who never goes to the gym and not like the triathlete who goes for a bike ride even in the rain.

But back when I only worked out by going to the gym I would do it for a while, enjoy it while there, but then something would happen and I'd lose the habit. And no amount of pep talks would get me back there.

Because I hadn't found my "thing" yet.

Now that I've found it, it's a little hard to start back up when I've been out of the habit but not that hard because I go back one time and the joy I experience makes me come back the second time.

Sometimes the mind and body need a break to process and catch up with life's experiences - especially such a tragic one as yours.

For me to get motivated again I print out a months calendar and put every appointment etc onto it, then fill in the blanks with exercise - no matter what kind, walking, yoga, bike rides. It makes it part of the week and I then "just do it". I also try to team up with someone for walks and coffee - socializing and motivation!

Um, that wasn't a pep talk, was it? LOL

How about: make it a task to find an activity that brings you joy in honor of your friend.

Did your friend support your process toward health?  If so - I would use that as my motivation - I would rededicate my working out in part to his/her memory.

P.S sorry about your loss - as a motorcycle rider myself - I feel that loss too!

I can understand how you feel we lost a young man in our neighborhood about a month ago after he was struck while riding his motorcycle. It often doesn't make sense. I would tell you that your friend would not want you to stop your journey. Try dedicating your exercise time to their memory use that time to think of them.

I'm sorry that you have had such a loss.

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend and the migraines. I know how tough losing a friend can be and I know how awful migraines are because I'm a fellow sufferer. I don't know what to tell you except I hope you can get past the pain to working out so maybe the workouts can help banish the migraines.  Kiss Kiss Kiss
