I have looked all over the BT site for more specific details on the best tasting drink using the following criteria; 1. 15 grams or less of carbohydrates 2. 9 grams or less of fat 3. 15 grams or more of protein 4. drink that provides 150-200 cals each.
I do have 3 I picked up at Safeway, Atkins Advantage; EAS Advantage; Muscle Milk, Light all in pre mixed containers. I'm looking for powder now that meets these requirements and taste's good. It was suggested to get vanilla flavor and then add extracts of your choice to it. Muscle Mike is least favorite at this point and won't be getting that again.
Anyway, I'm looking for help. I just started the pre-op portion and I have 2 weeks to get back to some kind of real food. Help!!!

I am searching myself, but I just got Glucerna (made for diabetics) and it tastes really good and doesn't make me sick (post-op). It has only 10g of protein but it is the only one I have found so far that does not taste like chalky medicine to me. I also got a chocolate protein shake from GNC that has like 60g of protein and it tastes okay (not great). I think I will tolerate that better a little later. Skim / 1% Milk is also an option at 8g of protein for 8oz...
Probably others will have more suggestions. Remember to try it first then decide. I am going through alot of shakes right now too. Not getting much protein in yet though... baby steps.
Good luck!
Michelle

I like Dymatize ISO-100 - 100% Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Isolate - 24g protein, 1 carb and 0 fat - I buy it from Body-Building.com - I also like ISOPURE - unflavored - it is very similar but has NO flavoring - it is great to mix with what ever you like - If you mix it with Crystal lite it tastes good (though you can tell it is a protein drink). I like the isopure to mix into soups and such with VERY little effect on taste.

I have had a hard time finding a good tasting protein too. There are weird, chalky tastes in some...
I discovered True Protein - trueprotein.com - and it tastes fine to me. I make the shakes with 64oz of skim milk, two scoops of protein powder and one pkg of whatever flavor SF pudding mix you like. I don't have the stats for you but i know it's in the right ballpark. I originally saw this on OH, then it was posted here and it really is tasty. (this keeps in the fridge for a couple of days, it's not a one day supply)
Good luck - it's a puzzle, that's for sure...

Remember your tastes will probably change once you get sliced and diced Here's a couple of my staples: As a baby freak i recommend protein shots as they pack a hell of a lot of protein in 4oz of liquid Ian

At first just buy one tub at a time as your tastes will change sometimes daily. If you don't like it try it again in a month or two it might be ok. Visit a Vitamin Shop or GNC for a big selection (i like VS the best) Walmart, Meijers and Target all have house brand protein powders that fit the bill under diffrent names. As for what to make it with water FF milk or belive it or not ubsweetened soy milk is great. Instant coffee is what I used after several months to kill the taste. Now I can get most of them down.

I hate pretty much all the RTD shakes. I can stomach Muscle Milk Lite (but not regular) but I don't enjoy it.
For protein powders, I like Chike, which you can only get online as far as I know, and Syntrax Matrix Mint Cookie, which I do get online but I bet you can get it in stores.
I tried MAX Protein once and liked it but I can't get it near me.

I use the Premier drink daily as well (we only have Chocolate here in New Orleans too)!
For a powder, I really like the flavors by Synthrax Nectar. You can order a multi-pack to try various flavors either at dietdirect.com or netrition.com ...good luck!

Premier Protein are about the only RTDs I like.
I've worked with them a bit, they advertised on my radio show for awhile... generally only the Chocolate is available retail, once in awhile they can get Costco or Sams to do the vanilla or strawberry, otherwise they're only available online.
as for trueprotein.com (now truenutrition.com), I use the CFM whey isolate, unflavored, unsweetened. It's as close to "flavorless" as I think you're gonna find.

Thanks Yall for all the good info... I too love the premier rtd... but what protein bars are the best to choke down... I really hate the sugar alcohols, yuck, but it's hard to find something affordable without it.

I really like the Detour protien bars (Costco has the best price for a box) there's also a thread on the product reviews that covers protien bars.

Glad to hear about the Premier RTDs. I wonder about them every time I go to Costco. is there somewhere to get them individually so I can try them first? Hate to spend all that and not like them. Is Premier a Costco brand? I really like the True Protein. I use the vanilla in the shake mix and there really isn't a cruddy aftertaste. plus, the site IS fun to order from... now I am going back to my nightly treat of a Supreme Protein Bar (PB and J tonight) and I am a happy camper...

Protein bars aren't a good enough nutritional choice to be choking them down. Most of us who eat them do so as a treat because we like them. But even the "low carb" ones have too many carbs compared to the protein and often a lot of fat as well. It's not an efficient way to get protein. It's just better than eating a candy bar.

Absolutely! However, if you need a protein bar in a fix, Premier Protein makes one that I buy from Sam's Club. The other one that I have found that tastes the best to me is Supreme Protein. I have also found a protein bar that is put out by Nature Valley.

I don't ever bother with the ones that have sugar alcohols. I'm gassy enough! I like the Power Crunch wafer bars, french vanilla is my fav. I get um from the Vitamin Shoppe. I always have a few in the freezer. I think they taste better frozen.

I don't think I have ever thought of protein bars as an actual protein source...they are just pretty tasty (Well, the Supreme Protein ones - don't really like others), don't make me dump if I eat them as a dessert and aren't horrible for me. I just got labs back and I am good on all counts- with no protein shakes on a regular basis and Pro Bars as occasional treats.I feel like a really lucky woman...

Thanks, I tried the premier protein bars, and with 30g protein pre-op I'm extreamly full. I even cut them in 4 so if I get the feeling I need to munch I grab one of the pieces. I'm keeping track on Sparkpeople.com and feel like I'm doing great.
Thanks again, Neice

Well, I'll try typing this again. The other one just went away. Anyway, I picked up two boxes of the Premier at Costco this past wed and I like it quit well. Of the 4 I have sampled, its by far the best. One of the 4 I got was muscle milk light. That is nasty as far as I'm concern or should I say my taste buds. I have 2 left that I have placed in the back of the fridge and saving them for the day world famine comes. Nasty..... However as some of you have outlined that my taste buds will change down the road, maybe muscle milk it will become my fav, who knows.......
I am happy to report all is going well with the liquids. I have lost 6 lbs sense this past monday, maybe more cause I didn't weight in this morning. I have to start giving myself Lovenox shots this coming tuesday morning because I have to get off my Coumadin for surgery. So 9 days left until the big day of change. I am dragging somewhat and I"m guessing its the liquid only thing going on right now. My brain wants to go, but my body says not so fast.... I'm still having leg problems. Physical Therapy is helping but very slowly. From what I'm understanding the doctor said that for people who have lost lots of weight, its not unusual to have a little hip sourness because your not walking the same way anymore. It is getting better but still have to use the cane. If I walk quit a lot, all over walmart, costco and on it for a while it will get sore I have have to sit for a while. Its so dishearten because all winter I hit it hard and I felt great, then one day playing water volleyball it started, not much at first but did I stop when it started, nooooooo I kept going for 5 more days.
Thanks for all the info from each of you. Love to all of you....
