I'm approx 1.5 years post op. I really wanted to attend this years M & G, but being a single mom and finances didn't allow me to do that.
I was thinking of saving $ for next years event, but I'm concerned about it.
If I'm going to spend the type of $ to attend a bariatric event, I would expect it to reflect that attitude. What I've seen on the internet, is a bunch of drunk fools talking about alcohol and where they can get their In and Out Burger. Granted maybe I'm just seeing the negative and maybe it's a small percentage of what really went on.
Also Vegas is known for whatever happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. So maybe people were just letting loose and they aren't always like I've seen.
Any feedback??
Thank you BTV and all you freaks!!

Next year will be my fourth Vegas Meet & Greet and each year I have an absolutely amazing time!

For the record I don't drink and have not been to the In & Out on Tropicana behind NYNY - Although I can give you directions in Vegas via Starbucks locations Wink

I try to go for 6-7 days each year - What makes it so fun for me are my freaky BTV family!

I'd save the pennies and we'll take you sky diving with us next year we're gonna try and get 30 freaks to jump!

Ian:
Then I will save my $$. However, it takes xanax for me to even get on a plane. I can hardly stand on a chair to kill a bug. The only way I'd jump out of a plane (and pay someone??) is if I was knocked unconscious and thrown our.

No problem we can handle that as we'll be doing that with Allison Tongue

Not everyone spends the weekend drinking.

BTV works their ass off to bring you and others information from these events. :-)

Some of my favorite moments are the quiet times spent with other BTV freaks, where we can sit and really talk about issues we are dealing with. Funnily, those moments doesn't get captured on video or in pictures.

The weekend is what you make of it. If you want to gather information and support, that's what you will get. If you want to spend the weekend getting drunk and partying......that's also a  choice.

What Toni said...

Yes, you see a lot of the "cutting loose" stuff... in part, because that's what makes for fun pictures. how much fun is it to take a photo of people just sitting around talking?

At the 2011 event, I think I had a total of 2 beers. This year, I did drink significantly more... but my focus was never on the drinking. It's sort of in the same vein in 12 of us post-ops gathering around a table at the Monte Carlo buffet. The food was one part of a celebration of friends, it was not the focus.

It really was a time of finding great support and making connections.  Honestly, I didn't see anyone drunk the entire time.  I just saw lots of hugs, laughter and sharing.

It is what you make of it and I made it a great weekend with everyone.

Rob.....you and I shared a beer once...so I don't think that you drank significantly more...lol

Jules....Really, the event is what you make of it.

There will alwasy be the partiers and the over the top peeps who use Vegas as an excuse to let loose.  But many of us, myself included, and also the BTV crew....use this time to mentor the newbies and try to be a good example of how life can inprove after weight loss.  Aslo, a great place ot meet and make good new friends as well as see old ones every year!!

I say save your pennies and hang out with the peeps who are more like minded as you are...I am always around for good clean bariatric healthy fun!!
