You will be surprised. At first, you won't have much of a choice but to follow the program. You won't be able to get anything else in even if you want to. Then, your new eating will become a habit. You will still have to deal with temptation and cravings, but it is alot easier when you are motivated by loosing all the weight at the same time. It's normal to second guess yourself, but I bet you can do it Smiley

Best,

Congrats - VERY EXCITING.

For the first month or two you may not experience much in terms of hunger  (each person is different).  This helps a lot!

I did miss textures during the first month or so.

I have met a lot of my needs (call them cravings) - through substitution.  That is knowing what I want and finding something that is high protein and a similar food (for example chocolate - I use SF chocolate pudding and maybe even add chocolate protein powder).

I've developed a high protein bread that seems to work very well for meeting that need for me.

There is LOTS of good advice on here and in the recipe section as well as on other sites and blogs.

For me one of the keys is SPICES - I love the and use them all the time.

It's like a reboot to your system. Like someone said, at first you have no choice in making changes. But then it becomes a lifestyle of new habits.

You can do this.

And know this - you can have success even with issues. I have binge issue and am addicted to simple carbs - if I eat them I turn into a munching machine - but I'm still a long way better off than I would have been if I had not had the surgery. The first 6 months are pretty easy - and for guys - you lose a ton of weight in that time frame. Besides, it's normal to get nerves - this IS a big deal, but it's also a lifesaving deal for most of us. I personally wish I could have done it much sooner - but I kept thinking I should be able to do this ON MY OWN. Doh! And I'll never get that time back, but I AM making the best of it now, even though I have struggles.  Smiley

You are SO ready!! I, too, was well over a year in the approval process and that was the best thing that could have happened to me.  By the time I had my surgery I had done all the study and preparation for post-WLS life and was MUCH better prepared than I would have been at the beginning of that trek.

Later on YOU WILL BE TEMPTED, but all you need do is remember that you invested 4 years into getting this surgery and that no potentially tasty treat is worth reversing all that hard work. As I read somewhere else, "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels."  You'll do great and we will be here to help you through the difficulties and most importantly, to cheer your successes!

keep us posted!!
