Taken on 11/17 - cut hair as part of tranformation

« on: July 08, 2012, 04:53:27 PM »

I had an experience over the last week that has confirmed for me how poor weight is as a single measure of health.  So on 6/25 I weighed 247 for about a week (even though my body media said I was still running a 2000 cal a day deficit) - then on 7/4 & 7/5 my weight ran up to 254 - today it is down to 243.  There were some things that were different and the big one was level of hydration (I was slightly dehydrated).  Now I know I did not loose 9lbs in three days - but had I only had a scale and weighed once a week - I would not really know what was happening.  Now it also looks like I may have been dropping in % of Body Fat - we will see as the hydration restabilizes.  All very interesting.  I also think that David S mentioned that he experienced increased appetite just before a weight loss after a plateau.  I definitely noticed this.  It is really interesting to me how the body seems to fight giving up the fat - that evolution and instinctual knowledge is a powerful thing to overcome (millions of years of natural selection) and only about 100 years of having tons of refined crap to easily give the body what it wants (but does not need).

Good info. What kind of scale do you use? I just have a regular scale. I have seen the scales that will do BMI, but honestly I don't know much about what kind of scale to use.

I have one that does Body fat %, water%, muscle mass % and bone weight.  Very useful - they can be bought online for $50

Interesting, I have found that as I've lost weight I have become more thirsty after physical activity and less thirsty without activity (compared to pre surgery). There have been a few times when I felt dehydration coming on and stopped my activity immediately, I had a severe dehydration problem in the days post surgery and I never want to experience that again.
