This is a copy of my Facebook post..........

Left for my bike ride a little past 5:30. You could feel the rain in the air. I could hear The Clash singing in my head..."Should I stay or should I go?" I went, fully expecting to get poured on. You know how the wind shifts before it's gonna rain? Well, real quick I learned that the wind had shifted and was hitting me head on! The Clash kept singing. It had already clouded up before I ever got out the door. I pushed on! About 13 miles into the ride, I could feel some raindrops. Not enough to even get you wet. It was hot and humid and when the raindrops hit you, it was like a pinpoint of welcome relief. I soon turned onto the Monroe bike trail so I was protected from most of the drops due to the tree cover. I pressed on to the 20 mile mark and turned around. As I continued, I could feel my thighs starting to get a little sore. I could hear them talking to me, "Uh...excuse me buddy. Remember us? Yeah, we were with you on Saturday when you rode 35 miles? Hellooo?" By this time The Clash were no longer singing. I told my legs, "Just shut up and keep pushing or we'll never get home."

Sidebar: A great nature moment on the way home. About 300 yards from where I was getting off the Monroe bike trail, a young doe hops out of the hedgerow and is walking up the side of the trail. She looks and sees me about 30 yards away. She doesn't panic and just keeps walking until I'm like 10 feet away and then just hops back into the hedgerow to watch me go by.

Anyway, I say all that to tell you this: My mind was flirting with every excuse it could find to stay home with my butt planted firmly in my recliner or turn around early and head back to my chair. I refused to listen. Oh, I could hear it but I wouldn't let it stop me from moving. And yet, despite all the doubts, concerns, excuses and every other negative feeling my mind could muster, as I was pedaling down the shoulder on Tuckahoe Rd, I kept thinking, "It's a great day to be alive!" I hope that somehow you felt the same way today.

Awesome Burnett! I got to see some deer in the park last Saturday but nowhere near as closeup as your doe. Good job on the ride. Is there an Iron Man competition in your future?  Grin

Keilah, I'd love to do the triatholon but just can't run at all. My left knee is bone on bone and really needs to be replaced. And I'm just not ready to get it done yet.
