… but EXHAUSTED!
After ASMBS we flew to DC as guests of the OAC. Yesterday (Monday) we walked all over “The Hill’ as part of a group meeting with legislators to get the OAC’s message out there.
The group of folks unleashed on “The Hill”
The California Contingent consisted of (from left to right) Michelle (The World According to Eggface), Toni (BariatricTV.com) Sandi (Banded Living), Lynnda (BariatricTV.com) and Antonia (Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America)
Number one priority yesterday was to get Obesity added to the Essential Benefits Package that is being discussed currently. The OAC wants it added specifically to the language of any healthcare/benefits wording that comes out of the legislature – on par with prevention/treatments for cancers, mental health, drug therapies/addictions, etc..
Our morning ‘under the umbrellas’ briefing
I have to say that I have never been that ‘up close and personal’ with some of the workings of our government. Walking from the HOUSE to the SENATE was so tiring.. From the Hart building to Cannon House to Rayburn for a briefing back over to Hart then back to Rayburn.. then we had to run to get to the airport to get back home.
The California contingent up close and personal at Senator Barbara Boxer’s office.
Hopefully what we did yesterday does help in some small way.. I know that I have a new, and even bigger respect, for what the OAC does for anyone struggling with.. or anyone who knows someone struggling with, obesity.
For that reason – and many more – I urge you to join the OAC (if you haven’t already).. $20.00 for the year.
