It’s that time of year again Freaks. The time when all of the manufacturers in the bariatric world release their new products at the annual meeting of the ASMBS. As always we were there to cover it. From new supplements, to cool ways to portion your food, to dealing with post weight loss surgery odor, there was a ton of new stuff to be seen.

Friends and Vendors at the WLSFA Mother of All Meet & Greets
In this week’s episode of BariatricTV we continue our coverage of the WLSFA Mother of all Meet and Greets with interviews we did with some good friends and vendors that were in attendance.
We start things off with an interview with the founder of the WLSFA, Antonia Namnath. During this interview we are also joined by Diva Taunia.
Next we have a chat with Ed Sinson from Bariatric Advantage while Toni steals his chews.
Toni gets the tables turned on her as Vic Giaconia from Celebrate Vitamins interviews her! Watch until the end.. Nick isn’t the only singer in the family!
Amy Pedersen from Slimpressions gives us a little insight into their line of shapewear. Thanks to Kaitlin from The Bypassed Life blog for being the before and after model.
Having announced their launch at the event, the folks from Healthy Everyday Life Products (HELP) tell us what they are all about.

WLSFA Mother of All Meet and Greets
In this week’s episode of BariatricTV we take a look at what went down in Las Vegas at the WLSFA Mother of All Meet and Greets. Friday night was fun packed and complete with a wedding. On Saturday we spoke with some vendors and a couple of Freaks that were in town for the event. Then, on Saturday night, it was a flat out party!
HIGHLIGHTS
- Friday night we started things off with a small meet and greet just for the BTV forum members.
- After our get together we headed down to the ball room where the official start of the Meet and Greet took place.
- Antonia introduced Connie Bailey who was the first recipient of a weight loss surgery grant.
- Next up were Vic and Nick Giaconia from Celebrate Vitamins.
- Nick, who is quite the musician, played a tune for the WLS patients.
- To round out the night Ms. Diva Taunia was married to her long time counterpart Robert Fronk.
- On Saturday we kicked things off by interviewing a few Freaks.
- We interviewed Beth (Trimoon) and Tim Baker.
- Next we interview Ian (Baka) McGagh about his Jumping for Freedom fundraiser
- We have some fun popping Beth (Melting Mama).
- The Saturday night events started with Comic Allie Raye.
- We end the night with a wonderful burlesque show by the Diva Taunia Dolls. Toni and Lynnda even got to dance in a couple numbers.

BariatricTV hits the road to New York City in April.

He discusses typical concerns regarding Medical Tourism to Mexico for surgery. We speak with Dr. Quiroz about how aftercare works once a patient returns to their city/state after surgery as well as some things to do, and avoid, prior to plastic surgery to help guarantee a successful outcome.

In our last round of interviews from the ObesityHelp Conference in Houston we’ll start with Dr. John LoMonaco. Dr. LaMonaco is a Houston based plastic surgeon who you may recognize from the TLC show Big Medicine. He shares with us a new book he has, as well as some advice on how to obtain insurance coverage after weight loss surgery.
We also interviewed Annessa Chumbley who is a Registered Dietitian and owner of Flourish, LLC. Annessa talks with us about her lecture at the conference which was about post weight loss surgery nutritional supplements. She also answers a question from one of our forum members on veganism and vegetarianism after surgery.
In our final interview from the conference we speak with Chris Spence who is the Executive Bariatric Account Representative from Ethicon Endo-Surgery. As a company that makes surgical devices and surgical instruments we were interested in why they would be taking part in such a patient focused event.

We’ll start out the second round of our interviews from Houston with a chat with Dr. Garth Davis. Dr. Davis spoke at the conference about healthy eating, and we spoke to him about a vegan and vegetarian post op diets. Dr Davis also has some interesting, and sure to be controversial, thoughts on protein and protein deficiency.
We also interviewed Mary Jo Rapini who is a psychotherapist that specializes in helping surgical weight loss patients with sex and intimacy issues. She also provides some wonderful advice on the pre operative psychological evaluation.

OH Houston Interviews Part 1
In the first of our interviews from the Obesity Help Houston Conference we speak with Connie Stapleton who is a well know psychologist in the surgical weight loss community. Connie has a new book coming out and needs your help to write it.
In our next interview we talk with Dr. Guillermo Alvarez about his surgical practice in Mexico. Dr. Alvarez talks bout his dedication to the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy and a new book he has published to educate patients on the sleeve procedure. He also talks bout how his practice can help alleviate some of the fears one might have about surgery in Mexico.

Episode 90: The Long Beach Walk From Obesity
On this week’s BariatricTV we went on a road trip. On Saturday September 4th we joined hundreds walkers for the Long Beach Walk From Obesity. We grabbed some interviews with some walkers, a couple sponsors and even a WLS celebrity. Also while we were in Long Beach we managed to hook up Katie Jay who’s the Director of the National Association for Weight Loss Surgery. In addition to being a successful patient, Katie shares her success with others through her website as well as retreats and seminars for other pre and postoperative patients.
